I’m working on the Protoform GT body recently. I’ve got the 4Tec GT body. It’s held up solid for me. But haven’t really hit anything with it. It’s been flipped few times.

I had another round of testing last night.
Don’t let anyone tell you you cant race a 4-tec.
I think I have solved most of the issues around putting one into official VTA class. I was able to squeeze in a 48T spur and a 41T pinion by cutting the gear cover for a 3.3 FDR.
I doubt I will need to be lower that that for the track I will be on.
Fully loaded I was around 1700g to start with, down to 1550G now with 100G left to trim off somehow.
Don’t let anyone tell you you cant race a 4-tec.

I removed the battery mounting system for pure-tech velcro straps and shortened my motor wire connections. I got rid of the adjustable body mounts for solid ones, cut some of the gear cover, not using the factory RX box or servo mount, trimmed a bit on the body and made a couple holes that were already in the chassis bigger. Also swapped a spool for the front diff. As I work on it and take things apart I am keeping a running tally of weights. Little bits here and there add up, just like in real racing. Im at the point now where its either start putting speed holes in the chassis or swapping out for lighter screws. The body I am using also has a big wad of shoe goo on the nose so when it comes time to get competitive ill be using a lighter shell.

I work with the Hadley J.H. School RC Club. Yesterday was our first race of the school year. We run on the gray carpet. We started a new class for the drivers with at least one year of experience. It is the Stock 4-Tec 2.0 Class. We had three out of our four drivers with the cars who raced yesterday. There were no broken parts. One driver ran the stock tires and he drove aggressively drifted the corners. The other two drivers used touring car tires donated by WASSPEEDRACER48. They are a low profile rubber touring car tire and gripped well. The drivers enjoyed the cars. The did not traction roll. There were two problems. One problem was the Traxxas transmitter without any ability to adjust steering travel. It was very easy to oversteer the car. The other problem was the fact that the cars are setup for lipos. The adults who helped them felt the instructions in the manual wasn't much help and the went on line to adjust the esc for NIMH batteries. We bought the model without the bodies and I found some inexpensive 200mm bodies on sale and WASSPEEDRACER48 donated a very nice used VTA body. I think it will be a good class.
