Iv got it locked rear one way front with universals all round alloy drive shafts and the tamiya alloy steering. I might try a rz tuned motor first. It didn't need a lot more just a bit. I know the 5.5t is overkill but overkill is fun haha

Gday all.

I'm new to drifting, and am wondering what pinion would be best to run in a TA03 with a 9T brushless?

Thanks in advance.

23t or lower. Please post pics of your setup. I'm building up my TA03 right now so I'm trying to come up with ideas for things like motor wires and electronics placement. I've been google imaging my ass off!

I didn't realize that it's the front-motor renaissance again lol... just bought an XV-01 to develop for drifting, anyone else thinking the same way? I've seen a lot of XV-01's rallying but none yet holding up the TA03F drifting mantle.

Thanks Chiefy.

I'll post up some pics soon.

I intended running the TA03 in VTA which in Aus is 21.5T blinky.
Due to the fixed spur size I couldn't gear it high enough for my local track.
So threw in a Silver Can and a set of drift tyres and went sliding. Have a Black Can in it now, but will give the 9T a go this week.
As I wanted to run VTA, it's still in rear mount configuration.
Have all the necessary parts to run front mount, but haven't fitted them yet.
Might do this when I put the 9T in.

I'm interested to check your car out too.
So if you have any pics mate, I'd be keen to see them.

When I first saw the XV01 I was juiced and planned on getting one, TA03F reborn!!! I figured the $270 pricetag was reasonable. Then I saw the Sakura D3 and @ $120 I was planning on getting that (2 for less than 1 XV01?!)
Then 3AM one night I wasn't exactly sober and next thing you know I bought a TA03F Pro DSpec offf ebay.

Been waiting to see a XV01 drift though, it's bound to happen. It also wouldn't surprise me if Tamiya released a drift version of the XV01 chassis. Tamiya still has the TT01 and now the VDF2. What's going to replace the mid-level TB03? Hmmm...

Good luck with that TC3, you might be able to ghetto rig Yokomo CS gears to it, but for the most part if there isn't an aftermarket option available for your car you'll need to find a way to fit gears to it. That's one of the problems of shaft. There's a FOW available for the NTC3.

As far as CS'ing yourSakura Zero, check out that website. They'll be able to help you more than this forum can. Alot easier for belt CS!

Hey guys, wondering would a 17.5 give me enough juice for drifting or should I look into something else?

Depends on tires and size of track -- if you've got a huge, wide open track and relatively sticky tires, the 17.5 is not going to lay down enough "spike" power to break the tires free unless you've really got the setup down. Wide, fast drifts also get more difficult the lower in power you go because you're simply not traveling as fast. But nothing is impossible, and you can make it work with slippery tires, a clue about setup, and careful driving.

In fact, my XV-01's coming in with a 21.5 lol... strictly for tight tracks and indoor fun (at first). Can still make it work -- boosting the heck out of the 21.5 is going to be fun.

I originally had a 17.5 in my VDF and even on the most aggressive profile I felt it straight up blew. Couldn't pick up speed fast enough.

Speaking of which. I have to go cheap on my 03F build meaning I have to use what I have. I have a brand new Castle 5700kv SV2 BL system. I really don't want to use it since it's uncensored but apparently its the equivalent of a 10T. Anyone ever use the Castle systems for drifting?

I've used the CC 5700kv for ages in my sprint 2 with no problems.

I'm more of a parking lot drifter so the tracks are only as big as I want to make them..lol Honestly I am planning on a 9T but found a great deal on a 17.5T with esc and lipos and since I need everything it would get me started by saving me money..

That's great to hear! So am I worrying over nothing for the whole uncensored cogging hoopla?
