Well, I tend to do it based on how the comm looks after every run & how well the motor's still testing on my Robi, so it can be different for each motor. But in general, I'll go around 4-6 runs between rebuilds, & then I'll clean it, true the comm & change brushes(but there are instances where I've also needed to do it after 1 or 2 runs, when I accidentally overheated the motor, burned up the brushes). But overall, I'd 4-6 runs is about normal for the kind of high-silver brushes we use a lot these days....

Just kidding....I will be very happy if I can make it in the A's-main but there is nothing stopping me from trying. And with the information and help from the R/C Tech forum, maybe I can get that chances.
Cheers,

gearing and temps
Ok, I know gearing varies greatly ,but I need some help guys.I am running Paradigm motors one p2k2 based and one monster based. These are running on a fairly large indoor asphalt track with only one long back strait of roughly 60 ft.The track also transitions in elevation about 3 ft back to front.I am overheating the engines badly; in fact I burned the Monster completely up.I saw 200 degrees+ on the Monster and last nite I saw 170-180 on the P2K2. So could someone please just give a good starting gear range. I have heard 6.7 to 7.3 final ratio's and I have also heard 8.0 final gear ratio. Thanks for any help, I'm not looking for a specific number, just a range to stay in. I can get there after that.I hate burning up these engines they really run great.

Bflat-Yes its the same motor as the Orion Core's.
What kind of racing do you do Bflat?
Cole Trickle-What kind of racing do you do?How competitive are you local wise?
I cut every 4-6 runs by simply skimming the comm. This is better than waiting 10-12runs and having to take off alot more of the actual comm to get it clean again.Unless your running at a big event or at the top locally I run the same brushes for 2-3 cuts.Depends on the wear of the brushes.
Southern fried-What car are you running and what are you gearing the p2k2?What were you gearing the Monster?
This will help with the answer.

SoutherFried...
Do you narrow the brushes on your stock motors? If not, try it, it should make the motor run more effcienctly and/or cooler. I recomend triming about .015" off the trailing edge of any stock motor, perticularly high RPM stock motors. You can also try taking about .007" off both sides, but I personaly feel that is not as good as just triming the trailing edge...

I have just started sedan racing(I am an off-road guy) so please forgive my ignorance.I am running a TC3....Ok don't laugh ,but I started the monster geared 28/70 and for the main I bumped it to 29/70.I smoked the motor but it was flat out hauling I got 3rd,that was last week. This week I ran the P2K2 and was geared 26/70. It didn't fry the P2K2 Paradigm but it was a good 180-190 as checked with the temp gun.Funny, I thought when I went electric I could get away from the temp gun...I still temp everything! Oh yeah, I run Pro match packs 1.65-1.69 and I use a INDI 16x9v6 to charge with. Thanks again guys for any help...I really need it.
To compare, my fast laps are 18.0 to 18.4 seconds, the fastest laps run are low 17's high 16's. Thanks again...
DynoMoHum- I have no idea how to narrow my brushes.I am running the brushes that Paradigm recommended with their motors.I usually run brushes for one nite (3 heats 1 main) and then change them and break them in for the next week. All of these motors were brand new on their first races.

K I would get use to the car before I would start worrying about lap times and so on.It may not be the motor or the batteries but how the car is setup and you getting use to sedan racing.
On the motor brushes do you replace them even if they arent worn out nor burnt? If so WHY are you doing this for club racing. That makes it very expensive.Like I said sometimes I will run the same brush for up to 3 cuts.It will depend on what brushes your running and how they wear(This will be different for EVERY driver due to driving style and how smooth they are).
The gearing on the Monster seems VERY HIGH.Expecially for a smaller track. You would actually drop 2 teeth below what a P2K2 is running at in that car when running a monster.
What brushes is Paradigm telling you to run?
What are you charging your 3300's at?
Im a offroader at heart myself.
Goodluck in the sedan scene.
