In theory the minimum is 138 total teeth for 64p - so that makes it 42 for the pinion. That will give 4.23 as a FDR is you are using stock diffs.

On my measurements, the total minimum and maximum Tooth Count (spur & pinion added together) on a 116 spur is 141 teeth to 157 teeth and still having proper mesh.
Assuming this remains true for a 96t spur (there can be some variations on different spurs), that would make it a 45t to a 61t pinion window...

Hope this helps

You don't think you'll fit less than 25 on a 116? The manual lists 140 min teeth (24 on 116) and I think it's a little conservative.

Plenty of motor mount position options to mess around with don't forget.

Qatmix - I'd be inclined to go looking for a 100 or 102 tooth spur if you're looking for 4.0-4.5ish. Both panaracer and kawada make one in the right size.

I use a 96T spur with a 45T pinion for my 17.5 blinky class. Looks like you can go 44T but the mesh is not right. 3.947 is my final.

Cheers guys, I'm off to a new track today and I wanted to be lazy and find a magic spur combo. I have a 96t arriving today if I need a low FDR although I have now been told that 4.5 is a good starting range so I will use my 108t one to begin with.

What motor?

Not exactly... while the .3 shims make it extra tight with the pin in, the real issue is the inner diameter of the red oring. Try it for yourself, assemble a diff half with a red oring and an outdrive. Hold the outdrive in one hand then try to spin the diff half. Notice the friction. Now take a kit (black) oring and do the same thing. You will notice that the black oring is much freer. Orings were lubed with green slime and shock/diff oil for testing.

In my current diff, I'm using black orings with (1) .3 on one side and (2) .1 shims on the other side because a .3 was too tight.

PS: The credit goes to Nick for discovering this. I blindly built mine with the Tamiya red orings and just accepted the tightness. I also started with 2k oil so it wasn't as bad but now that I'm running 500, the outdrives need to freer, in my opinion.

Initially I thought the same about the tightness of the red o rings, but my way of thinking is when the car travels straight, the diff never rotates on the o rings... the diff spins in the bearings hence the o rings has no impact on tightness. In reality, the outdrives rotate with the diff housing.

The red o rings is equivalent to increasing the cst of the oil sightly and prevents any leaks from the outdrives.

Just my 2cents worth.

Great Event, really enjoyed it. Qualified second on the A for 17.5 blinky. The 418 was fantastic. The final was a nightmare as I had transmitter interference / brown out and the car just seemed to steer right intermittently. After a minute or so it stopped doing it and I managed 4th. So no trophy for me but still a good days racing.

Seriously annoyed with my transmitter (Ko esprit 3 / spektrum pro module, and sr3500 reciever) it has done it a couple of times now at large circuits. Once it stopped being iffy I got the fastest lap time..... Curses!!

Time for a Futaba 4PX!

Great to hear the car is performing so well!

I'm old skool and use sticks. After looking around it seems that the New sanwa uses more power than the KO servo I replaced it with. This may be why it 'browned out' and was not able to power the servo (hence the steering issue) gutted as I had only just serviced the KO and it was in my spares.

A good race stick radio is about £400! In the UK and my KO is a brilliant transmitter I just might have to swap back to the KO servo on bigger tracks.

(Last night I was fuming.. The credit card was ready to get hammered!!)

Are you running a power capacitor in the Spektrum receiver? That can solve some of the issues, although personally I think you are better off moving away from Spektrum completely. The KO Esprit 3 proved problematic as well, hence why it wasn't on sale very long. You don't need to spend £400 on the transmitter, although the Exzes is very nice, the Gemini or Futaba 3GR do 99% as well. Or you can hunt something down second hand, as long as it is Sanwa or Futaba you won't have issues with the 2.4Ghz.

Yep, I know where you are coming from. Yesterday it cost me a potential trophy against sponsored drivers who I had been beating all day.

I really like the usability of the KO (the jog dials are ace to quickly change steering throw) I have never used a Exzes is it easy to use? it looks like you can get a Exzes Z for £300 from HK... Its nearly my birthday....

The only other issue I have is that I have loads of Spektrum receivers and the Sanwa receivers are really expensive..

I wont use Futaba, never had any luck with them, and the sticks controllers are really bulky and feel uncomfortable.

I am pretty sure its the Sanwa servo's I am now using, I cant remember it ever playing up with my Ko 2413.

Has anyone a detailed comparison of the geometry changes between the 417 and the 418.
With so many company's making upgrades for the 417 I'm tempted to keep mine and upgrade it rather than buy a 418.
