Nice paint!

sipaboy 02-26-2017 12:15 AM

Finished my TT02R. It was a good build. I have blue springs all around with the Tamiya yellow shock oil that came with the kit. Black plastic spacer inside the shocks. AW grease at the rear diff and front has the diff lock.

hello!

can someone give me a starting Setup for carpet and outdoor? TT02S
at the Weekend am struggling with my car at the Tamiya Eurocup (black ETS carpet).
At the begining everything seams fine but then the Desaster started.

thank you!

I've only run on black ETS carpet once with my TypeS but spec was kit shock positions, TRF (42102) shocks with 3 hole pistons and 40wt front and rear, AW grease in front diff, blue (hard) front springs, yellow (medium) rear, 3 degree rear toe in, droop stops fitted but no droop screws in the arms, no toe-out on the front (just parallel) and a glued up servo arm. Car was dialled every run. Couldn't fault it, just used less tyre sauce as the grip came up. When did yours go bad? As the carpet rubbered in?

Hey man come on out with it. I can help you tune that tamiya in at thunder. I run a old school TB03 and I am competitive. Very competitive.

I will be more than happy to help you tune that bad boy in.

What is it doing that you don't like? What would you like it to do that it doesn't?

MD 02-27-2017 07:58 PM

On the black carpet you may have to clean your tires and then apply traction compound.

fritzthecat 02-28-2017 12:40 AM

in the finals it began to struggle.
maybe I also set the front to low.
I´m so frustrated that at that time, that I think in the wrong way.

I also sauced the fronts only half.
go from blue/blue spring to blue fr / yellow rr but no Change.
I had 1,5° toe out front each side.
spool front, aw grease (Little) rear.
drop screw front screwed out to lower front (I think that could be the reason)

Qatmix 02-28-2017 07:30 AM

1.5 deg of front toe out is very excessive. I would reduce that as well.

I've just ordered a TT-02R to get back into a bit of local stock class/VTA style racing after about 15 years away. It all started with a TA-01 so i'm looking forward to building this type of kit again.

Just wanted to say the reviews and useful info on your blog has been a great help Oatmix

RiderZ 03-01-2017 10:31 AM

Just finished up my TT02R build.Added a few shims on the suspension arms to take up a bit of slop.Put a set of TRF shocks on also. For now I threw in a 17t brushed system I had. Will add a 17.5 brushless system come warmer weather.Hopefully test it out this weekend.

Where do the UK guys get the Yeah Racing parts from?

stueys 03-02-2017 12:46 PM

I have got some from RC Mart.

Nice build!

By the way, my son will be racing my TT02 in our novice on-road class this season. Happy that my TT02 will get some race time. :)

47340 TT-02 Lower Deck (Hard/White)

I see they have released A, B and D parts in Blue now.. but I don't see arms included in any of the parts trees. Is that because of the kit variations?

Hey gang, what is the degree of toe-in on the rear uprights of a stock TT-02?

Thanks!

wtcc 03-03-2017 11:50 PM

Zero degree

RS_ZACH 03-07-2017 08:14 AM

I picked up the R edition. Intend on using it to get back to racing. Use to run F1.
I want to know if I use the kit included 64t spur and 27t pinion. Would I need to run a fan for 21.5 or 17.5 ?

Raman 03-07-2017 09:02 AM

Depending on the class, you will probably need to change gearing to get the final drive ratio around 4 or lower. Mine is set up for USGT and I run the optional gear adapter that accepts other spurs and also use the Yeah Racing motor mount.

Fan on the motor is usually a good thing, especially when you are running really tall gears.

First just want to get the feel of the speed. Then when I race. Will get the gearing down further. Really want to only use factory racing parts. Nothing yeah racing only my ti screws!

Hi All,
I have not run Silver Can in ages. I am setting up a TT-02 to get my 5 year old son racing. I'll start with the stock gearing, but if he manages to not crash much, can anyone recommend a gear ratio for the torque tuned motor? Do I just drop it all the way down, 5.74?
Thanks,
Jose

With the standard motor mount you can get 5.74 using the high speed gear set, 29T pinion and 64T spur

I get you it lol

The yeah racing motor mount is the only non Tamiya part I have on any of my Tamiya cars ;)

The Tamiya mount has fixed holes the yeah is adjustable. That's the benefit. Disadvantage is it's not legal for TCS races

I JUST SCORED!

I've been thinking of making the updates to my standard TT02 to convert it to a Type S (carbon uprights, suspension mount kit, new a-arms, castors and bearing carriers, etc). All told I was looking at close to 150 bucks. I was poking around Ebay and found a store front that looks like they part out Tamiya kits. I was able to snag the entire B bag with almost all the parts I need for 30 bucks shipped from UK to Seattle. ALl I need is the a-arms and rear bearing carriers now. What went from another 150 bucks on a 100 dollar car is now about 65!

wtcc 03-12-2017 01:10 PM

Nice!
Enjoy your car. And post some pics ;)

Manlito 03-12-2017 01:12 PM

Could you also write the part numbers, please? I'm interested in the convertion but don't know all the parts it needs and a kit is quite expensive

I set my TT02 up for my 10 yr old son for this year's season. He ran the TT02 stock (silver can torque tuned motor and stock gearing) for 2 full practice sessions. He did really well w/ minimal crashing, -so I upped the speed a bit by going to the high speed gear set above. The car really hauls now and is plenty fast. He did get one practice session in w/ the latest setup and still did well and the extra speed made him happy. -but of course the new issue is keeping grip around hard turns. ...he's learning that he has to ease in and throttle out.

Nice to hear your son is having fun. I think TT02 is a great chassis to start with and it has a lot of hopups that let you improve it.

Super cool. I'm almost done with the build and then we'll see if my boy can even make it 1 lap without breaking it.:lol::lol: Curious about the tires, do people run them with or without inserts? I'm just going to have him run the stock tires to prep him for TCS. I'll do a little searching too and see what I find.

You must check if the rules allow the use of inserts. I bought the RTR kit last summer (I'm new to rc and this was my first car) and it came without inserts but tires were already glued. They don't last long without insert because the inner part wears faster than having inserts. I don't know for sure if even grip changes, but I think so

I've heard that shimming some steering components on the TT02 can get rid of slop. Can someone who's done this post a picture/description of how this is done? Are any of the aftermarket aluminum steering parts worth it? Any help would be appreciated.

I set up my TT02 for my son to run in our novice class. So I am treating it like a TC car, -he is going to run racing slicks (I have Jaco's, Muchmore and Sweeps in various temperature ratings). I am also running my TT02 pretty much stock, it does have the upgraded Tamiya aluminum parts (steering assembly, shaft and shaft joints and the aluminum motor mount). Otherwise its the stock TT02 Drift S setup (although I didn't setup for drift).

In my experience most Tamiya kits like a little slop. I have not shimmed my steering and it handles great. I did however replace the stock outdrive dog bones with jointed axles.

Super cool. I'm almost done with the build and then we'll see if my boy can even make it 1 lap without breaking it.
I tried my kids w/ RC cars, then crawlers, etc.. when they were younger (like 3-7) ...it was mostly a crash fest. Just in the last 4 or 5 months my son started saying he wanted to go to RC events w/ me (as I go a few times a month). I still was cautious and really didn't take it too serious, yet after several months of him asking me (he's now 10, almost 11) I decided to take him to the track for a practice session. He loved it and told me that if he could he'd do this all day long! So now 3 practice session under his belt he is ready for his first race this coming weekend. It is pretty cool, as now I can take him w/ me. I dedicate a lot of time to his football (he loves football), but now its great that he can start to partake in my hobby. ...I have an 8 year old boy also, yet he's not interested and not really ready. I'll give him a few years.

If your son isn't interested or its too difficult you can always try when he's a little older. I let my son come to me this time ...so it is pretty cool. I now have a buddy to share my race tent with! (reminds me I got to pick up a second chair this week).

Here are part numbers.....

51297 - A-Arms
51352 - Front spindles (Tamiya calls them front uprights)
51293 - Castors (C-Hubs)
9008170 - Rear Bearing carriers

In the Type S B Bag you get the Type S shock towers, the hinge pins, camber blocks (F and R), outdrives, dogbones and wheel axles. Normally you would have to by the Carbon Fiber Stays (about 22 bucks each front and back) and the Type S Suspension set (45 bucks) in addition to dogbones and wheel axles and all the hardware needed to mount everything.

According to the Tamiya website I should have my A-Arms and rear bearing carriers wednesday, I will post some pics

Hello,

I'm new to this but I am planning to join as Novice-Spec on the upcoming TCS (all Tamiya parts, etc.). First race is on May (carpet, TQ Hobbies) and the next is on August (asphalt, Tamiya). Tire/wheel requirement is 26mm width...

My question is, what tires / wheels / inserts would you recommend for each track type (carpet & asphalt)? It would be most helpful if you can specify part number/s if available.

Thank you for all your help! =)
