Some people say the TT-02 is enough for an introductory kit, but there seem to be quite a few bad reviews as well.

In particular, a lot of people say that the steering gap is so bad that it is difficult to control it as I want and that it is not easy to drive straight.

What do you think? Is the TT-02 really a terrible model?

As always: it depends. What are you trying to do with it? If you take a standard TT-02 and want to race it in an open class, against top tier touring cars, you'll be at a serious disadvantage. My fully hopped up TT-02 SR is actually super easy to drive - of all my cars, this is the one I'd hand over to a beginner, as it is just so good-natured to drive - but I wouldn't call it competitive (although I have to admit, I never really tried because of different race class regulations).

But again, this is a) fully hopped up and b) it's the Type-S suspension, not the standard TT-02 one. The standard TT-02 is a cheap plastic car with some (although quite limited!) potential. For racing there are much better alternatives out there.

My TT02R came out dead straight. But to achieve that, I had to set my servo to 90 degrees, made sure the linkage was long enough so both links were equal in position, and set the toe to 1 deg out on my setup station. After that, I just put it on the track and drove it.

For the most part the TT02 is a good driving car. When you build it follow the instructions. In the basic TT02 there is a little slop in the steering and of you over tighten certain screws it can effect the steering. The upgraded versions are even better. My only complaint is that sometimes the steering uprights break. There are a lot of tracks in the U.S. that have TT02 classes.

Am I asking for trouble running the front diff locker on my TT02R with the dog bones? If so, I have the original gear diff I can fill with Traxxas 20 million fluid, which is what I use in my TT01 euro truck without issue. Strictly raced on asphalt.

Lucas redntacky or any really thick grease works well. If run ear plugs or totally lock the diff you're going to break things. A little give will save you a lot without a major falloff in performance. In fact I'd say it will increase your odds of finishing rather than a dnf.

My answer was geared more towards the tt02 but for the R, yeah I'd use the thick oil over a locker.

THE MOD IN THIS POST WOULD NOT BE TCS LEGAL

I recently installed a brushless motor into my TT-02s. The fan shroud was hitting the motor wire posts on the motor. I used a spare shroud, dremel, and cutting disc for a quick mod. This only took a few minutes. Basically I cut a corner off and the shroud no longer interferes with the wire mounts on the motor. Here are some pictures of the mod and the shroud mounted on the car.

I probably could have cut less off the shroud, but I thought this modification looked pretty clean.

- motor is a Hobbywing 21.5 sensored/fixed timing that was part of a 21.5/Justock ESC combo (discontinued)
- fan is a Yeah Racing Tornado High Speed Fan # YA-0180BU (30mm x 30mm) (https://www.yeahracing.com/tornado-h...180bu-00030330)

if you are racing TCS ,.the top picture is the TCS legal for TT02R.or RR .
The bottom picture option part is for TT02S only
the bottom pic has the better turning setting for the ackerman set .which is better for track grip condition .top picture is more for stock spec
