Yeah ok. They definitely only limit the down travel so maybe a cheap droop fix for the chassis with friction shocks.

I just bought some spare sprues that are from the TT02D, gray parts, and they're the same.

They dont have them on the front hubs.

I'm glad that someone asks about those downstops. I have already built a couple of TT-02 and also got puzzled about the stops. If you built the Kit according to manual, the chassis is " wrong way wedge" - >way more ground clearance in front than in the rear, which is really odd imo. You cannot address with the stock springs as they are way too hard.
It gets better with the hop-up aluminum rear hubs, they have no downstops and because of that the ground clearance levels out between front and rear.

all on backorder ,,,so what is the difference between the 2?
what would it take in parts for a tt02=tt02d....

Did you bother checking eBay first? There are quite a few TT-02D kits (without outrageous price markups) available.

Differences are that the TT-02D has:

• full set of ball bearings
• oil filled shocks (50746 x 2)
• Tamiya Sport Tuned motor (53068.1)
• Motor Heat Sink (54571)
• Wheels (9335534)
• Drift tires (54020 x 2)

that should be about all.

That's all good...but, even "at cost", by the time you've paid for the TT-02 kit, plus all the needed parts to turn it into a TT-02D, you'll probably have paid approx the same as you would have had you ordered the TT-02D from another vendor. On top of that, by the time all of it comes in, you might have already received the TT-02D kit.

Just because you "work at a hobby shop" doesn't always mean you'll save money, or time, in the end. I'm not saying you won't...but, it doesn't necessarily mean you will. Due example, we have 3 LHSs in the area, and, while 2 of them do stock a few Tamiya kits, neither has more than a few parts. In order to get parts, even employees have to wait for them to come from Japan. Even they're small enough to know to order those from other (overseas) vendors, knowing they'll save money AND time. As an example, the parts I ordered from JazRider & RC Mart for my TT-02 all arrived in less than two weeks. Had I ordered those parts from my LHSs, I could have easily been waiting longer...and, they would have cost me more.

Don't get me wrong. I know it sounds like I'm not "supporting" my LHSs...but, if you knew how much money I actually DO spend at them (especially one in particular), then you'd know that I, most certainly, DO support them. And, in more ways than just spending money there, as I'm constantly directing other people to them

Kinda what I did for the TLR 22 5.0. Bought a kit (DC, as we had a clay track at the time), and a roller, which is cheaper than buying all the individual spare parts separately.

Quick question: Does the TT-02 require a low-profile servo, or can any standard-height servo fit? For the two kits my step-dad & I will be building, the servos are about the only remaining items to purchase. Also, if anyone can recommend what torque range is best for the TT-02, I'd appreciate it. My step-dad's will have (at least for now) the stock plastic steering bell crank, while mine will have the aluminum.

Standard height servo can be used, no problem. Torque is also not the biggest problem with TT-02, if you choose a 4+ kg Servo everything will be fine.

Thanks for the info. If needed, I would have order a couple ProTek low-profile servos. As long a standard height servo fits, I've got a few ProTeks ust sitting around.

Several years ago I'd driven a TT-02s setup as a VTA car. I thought the car had potential to be a good club racer for VTA. Thanks to a few generous friends, I've now have 2 TT-02 rolling chassis. I am at least going to upgrade one of them to SR spec. The other I might just put a few minor upgrades on so I can race it outdoor on temporary paved surfaces or maybe a rally it.

Thankfully I was able to pickup a new glass fiber reinforced chassis off of ebay. I should also say thanks to theracer.com website for making it easy to find upgrade parts for the car as well as some possible aftermarket solutions. Of course I will be putting a lot of Tamiya blue on this car so I will be sure to post pics when I'm done.

Spent some time working on the drive line of the car today. I decided to install gear diffs front & rear. One thing I didn't notice when I bought the Tamiya TT-02 gear diffs is that they include 2 bearings!

I've been racing TT-02's for a couple of years now and love the platform. When I visited the Tamiya website today I noticed that TT02R: 84409, TT02RR: 47382, TT02SR: 47439 and TT02D Type S: 47301 are all listed as DISCONTINUED. Any idea what's going on at Tamiya?
