That custom pin retention ring is a great idea. FYI: Acetone can break down super glue. Just don't use acetone on Tamiya ABS plastic (such as the wheels) unless you want to totally dissolve the plastic. Just be careful not to let it soak into your skin.

FYI the new tt02s and sr steering is out of box a good choice and I will stick to the new one.

Bought diff lock number 54649 and it's not compatible with my tt02rr diff. Did I buy the wrong part? Drive cup to big to go into the diff lock hub. Love wasting money if this is not it lol

Part is correct, but you will need Standard TT-02 Diff housing (Tamiya 51331) to get the spool fit your RR.

Has anyone used these diff joints with the tamiya locker? And would these work with univervals if i end up going that route?

The custom pin-retention rings look nice but are ultimately unnecessary. Degrease the CVD components (assuming they were lubricated in the first place), then lock the set-screw in place with a drop of Red Loctite. Wait a day before re-oiling it. It will never come apart again, unless you heat the CVD with a lighter to melt the Loctite. This procedure works great on the CVDs on my HPI Bullet, which has the same size CVD joints but they are much more highly-stressed by driving monster truck tires. I've never had one come apart by accident, but I've always been able to disassemble them to replace broken drive pins when necessary.

What is the difference between the TT-02SR and the TT-02S? Also, what is the difference between the TT-02SR and the TT-02R? I assume combining the letters from the -R and the -S means Tamiya also combined the improvements from both versions of the chassis, but I'd like to know for certain.

The TT02, TT02D, TT02R, RR use standard suspension arms, which are upper and lower A arms. The RR adds a few extra hop ups to the R

The TT02S and TT02SR use the same arms as Tamiya TC chassis. They do not have an upper arm. The SR adds a few extra hop ups to the S.

I put this kit (base TT02 with Impreza body) together a while ago and ran it a couple times in the basement with a cheap servo that I finally swapped out. I always had weird steering issues, but even with a newer Savox in there it still couldn't center properly. It centered fine after turning left, but after turning right it would go past center. I messed with tightness in all steering linkage, which is nearly impossible to remove anywhere near all the stiction in the steering. I ended up pulling the factory servo saver and popped in a high torque servo saver and it centers as it should now. My guess is the factory servo saver is too weak.... The steering friction really has me eyeing the aluminum upgrade.
Figured I'd post this in case it can help someone else thinking they've blown a servo, but just have a weak servo saver

Questions?? What Motor wouldn’t overheat

Hello, I’m still trying to learn a lot about rc rn and I have this Tamiya TB-01 and I really want it to go from this brushed beginner car to something must faster and better. Although its AWD and I have heard you cant just throw any motor in there as it may overheat so please suggestions on what to put in it to make it hella sick.

I have an SR and I'm curious if the upper deck (chassis brace) from the TT-01E will fit. Since those two holes on either diff cover are open on the SR, was hoping it would work/line up. Anyone tried it?

EDIT - Never mind, just found someone else ion the thread that asked the same question, seems it's a tad too short. Bummer.

Overheating happens when the car is over geared, with respect to motor.

Generally speaking, you would gear the following motors as follows:

fdr = final drive ratio

17.5 around 3.8-4.0 fdr
13.5 around 4.5
10.5 around 5.0
8.5 around 6.0
4.5 around 7.0

final drive ratio is spur gear divided by pinion gear x internal ratio..

so a TT02 has an internal ratio of 2.6, so if you run a 86 spur and 25 pinion, you’re looking at

86/25 = 3.44; x 2.6, 8.944.. so you could run a very hot motor with this gearing and it would not over heat.

as a precaution it is recommended that you check the temp regardless after every run.

Now I personally don’t recommend any motor faster than a 13.5 in the TT02.
