Tamiya TT02 Thread

Build it box stock. The standard screws are working perfectly as long as you use the first thread you cut, again and again. Use ball bearings and put the box grease in the rear diff. Make sure you go for the lowest ride height. Everything else is just driver talent. So practise for the race. If you want to make sure you have a good motor, you need to prepare it. If the race is very long consider to prepare several motors as they lose power after some time.

hey guys,
trying to return to racing after a multi year hiatus, with these gt3 spec classes.
built a tt-02s for me and a tt-o2r for my son. couple of noob questions.
1. what o-rings do you guys run in the TRF shocks, I put the 419 shocks on the tto2s, and the 42102's on the R. What I thought building a smooth shock and getting the air out, only to realize the leak like crazy and I have to rebuild. my bad! do I stick with the TRF blue- o ring, or any other better?
2. with these trf shocks and the ball stud mounted, you get them on, but now, what's the easiest way to get on and off the car without tearing up the shock? does anyone use a shock collar and screw?
3. Tamiya parts seem like a pain in the butt to order or find in stock at a reasonable time frame. not wanting to wait 2-3weeks for tires, or body or steering knuckle and flange. as much as I support local with all my hobby needs, is there a US online retailer that stocks or supports these parts? I only know of amain and tower, I try to avoid to support local.
what started as a cheap car and class, has me consumed with Tamiya blue and almost the cost of a normal touring car. that's my own addiction issues.

I think in reading the rules that TRF shocks are legal for the Spec Novice Class, but I don't think they are legal for the Pro Spec class if you are running in that. I assume your son is running in the Spec Novice Class. I would look at two articles for some tips about setup and I think there is a discussion on shocks and "o" rings. Based on my experience with young drivers and myself, I would buy some extra steering uprights. They break easily and local tracks run out quickly.

The first race with my fully upgraded TT02S is coming up.
It is a fast car, but feels completly different to my TT02 KR.
Most of the difference comes from the Tamiya type A 24mm slicks.
Also they wobble much and I took the time to balance every tire.
To my surprise, the setups I found have 600cst damper oil in the
front and 800cst in the rear. That is heavy...

I am unsure how I will perform with the car, as it felt strange to drive last time.
Tomorrow the day will start with practice and after lunch the first two
of five qualifiers will take place. Sunday another three qualifier follow
and then the finals. Wish me luck

That is exactly what I did on saturday evening.
In the first three qualifyers it felt like driving on new carpet. I could handle it quite well and was not slow, but the car lacked feedback and wasn‘t turning well in the corner middle. I still won the first two qualifier. In the third I had a screw on the upper damper end coming lose and was slow. All these experiences then motivated me to copy the setup of my TT02 KR. I changed rollcenter, droop, damper oil and diff oil.

Sunday started very good. I was on pace instantly. I won another qualifier, just missing 26 laps in 5 minutes by half a second. The last qualifier was on a 26 lap pace when I rolled the car in the last seconds. Didn’t matter, the pole position was already save. I seem to be on a pole streak. This was my 4th consecutive pole.
The first final was nearly troublefree. With a field of seven drivers this was a positive surprise. I could open a gap the Andy Schuster (who always had an answer to my performance gains) and came better through traffic. He then was unlucky and got collected by a lapped driver. That was an easy win. The car still wasn‘t driving to my liking, but it was fast enough.
The second final started well for both of us. We opened a gap to the third place very fast. I for myself had real problems with the car handling. The car had a tendency to pull to the left or to right. Like this I missed apexes and then touched the barrier on the straight. Andy got close and got by. It took me several more laps to adapt to this situation. Andy could pull away 7-8 meters. In the end I closed the gap again, but it was too late. Andy won and I was very unhappy with the car again.
In the break I dicovered, that one tire was heavily unbalanced. On friday I balanced all tires very carefully. Is it possible that the insert moved? I couldn‘t solve this problem at the track, so I put the tire in the front and hoped for the best.
In the third final Andy and I stayed together until the end. The rest of the field had a massive shunt right after the start, so we had our race. Andy and I had the same pace. Missing an apex or touching a curb meant that the other got closer or you lost ground yourself. Our distance varied, but overall he never came close enough to launch an overtake. It became a mindgame. Just bring it home... and I made it. A run without mistakes. This ability is something I learned just recently. It makes me proud to finish runs like this. Somehow it is very rewarding.

My friend Micheal Wening stood on pole in the stock class, won the first final and was chrashed by the guy in second place twice in the second and third final. The third placed driver was the lucky dog and won these finals. He still secured second place. We celebrated with a cup shot:

In retrospect the car seems to be fast already, but I will need at least two more setup days to make it behave like I like it. I want it to be like my TT02 KR, that exactly does what I want it to do. I am not sure if this is possible with the tires and no anti-roll-bars.

Is the gear Diff that comes in the TT02 Type S the same as the RR Gear Diff? Just curious, are the changes only the Seals and O-rings on the RR Diff? Looking to get a few parts together for my son to try some TC.
N/M EDIT: I see in the Instructions that they are different GB1 vs GB2 (Case)
