front diff appears ok...the noise tends to be coming from the rear diff, and as I said before, know that I had a look, it seems to be slipping on acceleration.

In relation to the belts, how tight is too tight.....it is basically setup how it came out of the box, but I'm unsure how tight I can or should go

I am using the 3racing chassis so it is a little different to how I measure, but you should be able to press on the belt and see it dip down (I am guessing now) about 6-7mm before it feels tighter. The belts shouldn't stretch too much if you are only using a 540.

The belts are adjusted with eccentric carriers as im sure you know, so make sure they are both on the same "lug/notch" or that could give some tension problem.

The diff may be gritty if you have overtightened it, but even so it shouldnt slip. Hold the spur gear tight, then one of the rear wheels.

Then try to turn the other rear wheel, if it turns easily you have a loose diff,belt or the bolt/nut in the diff is shot.

The Rear hole actually gives you less steering.. Or should I say a less 'sensitive' steering.. Try it, u will see what I mean


I would keep the STEEL shafts in the front.. Unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure you wont hit anything or be hit by anyone.. It is just a matter of time before they will bend.. And if you are running a SPOOL in the front, dont even think about it.. ...STEELIES...

i raced my 05R on carpet today, running RP30s, CO27 and DNA2. for the heck of it last night i reinstalled the rear stock swaybar and moved the steering hub ball joint to the rear position. all i can say is that the car is performing so much better than the last time i ran it on carpet. the car feels so much more responsive, and i'm sure it's because of the rear swaybar. before, it felt a little numb and sluggish, but now it's very quick and has excellent turn-in without wheel scrub. i qualified 5th in the B, and finished 2nd in the B main. nothing like a set of broken in tires too!

to all fellow tamiya racers, i am thinking about trading with a local onroader for his trf415ms SE. my question is: will i notice much difference between the ta05 and trf415ms? this is one sweet a@* car. been rc'n about 17 years. race all kinds. onroad offroad electric and nitro. looking at trading my futaba 3pk for the 415. love my ta05. smoked my xxx-s jrxs-r and tc4. or is this a more carpet designed ride?

Hey guys i have finished the assembly of the stock TA-05. I have installed the Tamiya 23T motor, 105T spur gear and 42T pinion gear. A Nosram Hawk power reverse esc is used in conjunction. My question is, how will its performance fits in the hand of a beginner like me? If i wanna use 19T motor, do i need to change the spur/pinion gear? Thank you.

I've owned an MS and honestly I prefer the 05...but the 415 is still a great car.

Have to say that i have been the proud owner of 415,ms,msx,MRE,msxx, and 05MS, and have only driven them on carpet.

My view is that the 05 is alot easier to maintain then the 415, and the 05 is a stabile, easy-to-drive car - But it lacks the speed and agressivness of the 415.
If you want it exchange your MS i would go for a better choise like the 416.

and i would say the 415ms is more carpet than the 05. both marc, Victor, and Hupo uses the 415ms on carpet.

I use 33 or 34/105 with a Tamiya Type S (same as TZ/RZ) on a small and technical track. In summer I used to use 40/105 on a very large track. I think 42/105 is too long, try 34/105 and if your motor is "cold" after 5 minutes, try to a bigger one.
For a 19T motor you should choose under 30.

other question for everybody:
I know that the TA-05 is a pretty heavy car, but how is Your's?? My TA-05 is 1480gramm with the normal chassis.

Have you seen the 2008 TCS rules? GT-2 and GT-3 classes have to be 1550 grams minimum weight. You are 70 grams light!

GT-1 is the unlimited class and any Tamiya chassis is OK including the 415, 416, MS, etc.

Do you want the simple or full way?

Simple is to get the N parts, rocker nuts, 5x8 bearings or bushings, 3x9.5mm step screws, 28mm turnbuckes and 5mm adjusters.

Full is to replace the suspension with the LW reversable set.
