Steevo,

Try to avoid lube just abouty as much as possible no matter what the manual says, in an open drivetrain car.
It allways attracts dirt and dust!!!

NEVER use it on pinion/spur.
NEVER use it on ball ends, dogbones, and try not use/minimize on mips/universals.

The wear and tear will be very high if you'ld do this.

Regards,
Pizza

Thanks Pizza Dude,
I thought that was the case. I don't lube the other bits so there is no problem there. I just was unsure about the Spur/Pinion setup.

Default Hey Steevo

Why not devise a cover for the spur/pinion gears? I'm thinking of building one from some thin lightweight plastic canisters such as those that contain (local) cotton buds.

Rough,
WHY?

There is absolutely no real advantage to be gained by lubing the spur and pinion.
At least there are allways bigger disadvantages!

No, I dnt lube the Pinion/Spur gears myself.

I'm thinking the gear covers might save me some Spur gear changes. The local track I run in is really dusty and "pebble-y" sometimes.

Hi Rough,
I intend to do some development early next year on a couple of items for my TA04.
I have recently been doing some work with Carbon fibre and I intend to make some covers for the front and rear diffs which I have already designed on Paper. Also on the cards are some alloy rear bulkheads and a few other Carbon Fibre bits and pieces. I have already made some carbon fibre battery hold downs to replace the standard plastic as well as a carbon fibre Spur gear Plate, and a flexible carbon fibre upper deck which is similar to the TA04Pro upper deck.
I have a lot on my plate until February so everything is on hold till then.

I'm not exactly sure, but the catalog lists the following tierods for the car.

53525 3X18
53526 3X23
53527 3X32

Guys, what's been your experience with the front belt? How long does it take before it stretches and the drivetrain is nice and free? I'm running stock and the car is a slug with the tight front belt.

psycho,
when I had my 04-R, I ran the belt tensioner really friggin tight (all the way down) for the first couple of battery packs. That stretches it out a little.

Default Stretching Front Belt

Yup, Linger has a very good tip if you intend to run the car in stock racing. Temporarily install all the belt tensioners and run the car several times with a junk/practice 9Turn. When finished, remove all of the belt tensioners

Psycho,
After about 4 Packs and I noticed a significant decrease in belt tension. (I am running a 10X4 Though) The tensioner was set so it just touched the belt.
