Ta04r...

I don't see how anyone could tell what shock oil you are using unless you tell them, or they see you put it in your shocks.... besides I don't think so.
BTW: which TCS race are you attending?? the one at RCO??If so I will see you there.... which car do you run ? If it is at RCO I maybe able to give you a starting point.. For TA04's start with the kit suggested set-up w/ white springs in the rear and blues upfront...70-100 weight oil all around.

impactplayr - Thanks...I plan on making both the race at RCO and the one at Hobby Works
I have one of the 04R's...just waiting on getting my chassis back from tamiya so I can run the car again
Thanks for the suspension set-up...any ideas what kind of tires will work there?? Right now the only Tamiya tires I have are the ones that came with the car (the type A tires and the soft inner foams)
Thanks..hopefully see ya there

I was under the impression that the TCS was strictly Tamiya parts only...well all except for tire inserts and I guess you could say shock oil too
I'll have to shoot them an email and find out when the regisitration cut-off for the March race is and what times the race starts
That's cool about the 04R's kit tires work pretty well there, I'll have to buy another set or 2 before the race

Well, my race got rescheduled to Sunday becaue of rain, so I decided to take pics of my TA04R, race ready.
Here's an overall view of my TA04R. Notice the saddle chassis.
Here's an X-Ray foam bumper I cut with a lexan transponder holder I molded. I had to cut the ends of the bumper because the tires will make contact with them. I like how these "Schumacher-style" small bumpers look like.
I like my TA04R, better than my Pro 3. The only thing I don't like about it is:
- The motor mount heat sink. To adjust the motor gear mesh, the motor moves horizontally and UNDER the spur. This is a huge problem because it doesn't allow you to use small spurs/small pinions, so gear ratio selection is very low. It can be difficult to find a perfect ratio. I found that a 128t spur is the best spur to use for mod motors, as you can actually fit the pinions 30t-40t.
128/30 = 9.09
128/31 = 8.79
128/32 = 8.52
128/33 = 8.26
128/34 = 8.02
128/35 = 7.79
128/36 = 7.57
128/37 = 7.37
128/38 = 7.17
128/39 = 6.99
128/40 = 6.82
Internal drive ratio: 2.13

- Saddle chassis. I'm usually used to having battery holders, but I have to use strapping tapes to hold the battery down. I'm not too happy about this, but at least it works. It's only a minor problem.

Where did you pick up those setting wheels, I'm looking for a set myself, who makes them?
Also do you mind if I use those pics along with the other ones.
Thanks.

I got mine at Sheldons Hobbies in CA, USA. They are made by Take-Off. They come in other colors, like in purple, too. I like black, though. The setting wheels are much better than trying to set up with wheels/tires, much mroe accurate. Yes, you may use those pics as well.

nothing new in 04 land? Been playing setups lately, nothing new on my car. Can't wait for some $$$ to buy the carbon front/rear shock towers & a centre one-way

Anyone have any decent set-ups for a high-bite carpet track for the 04R??? I know what tires work the best at my track, but kinda looking for a suspension set-up
thanks
alvin - when you assemble the front carbon damper stay, make sure you pay attention so you assemble it the correct way...I didnt the first time and threw it all together only to find out that I had the front plate (2 plates make up the front stay) on backwards and had to reassemble the whole darn thing The rear went together easily My next purchase is gonna be a center one-way - that is, as soon as they come off "back order" in the states
thanks

According to the Tech Support, these ball ends arent available separately yet...So I'm assuming that some time in the near future they will have them available
Hope that helps
