We generally recommend to keep temperatures on ESCs and motors under 160 degrees for the longest possible product life.

Hi Steve, think you missed my q, why don't Novak's have current limiters any more? I thought this used to be a good way to control punch?

Steve, I have question about gearing? I usually run on tracks that are set up in parking lots which are usually 100' x 60'. This months state race(FSEARA) is at Kraceway in Kissimmee which looks very big in the pictures. Any way the question is what would be a good starting point for gearing in a Xray T2 007 with a Novak 17.5? Any advice would be great. Thank you.

Steve P.

p.s. the white line in the picture is the possible lay out.

Steve,

I noticed the GTB 4 Cell in both flavors #1714/#1715 were being listed as discountinued on a major online retailer site. Is it? Thanks.

We went away from current limiters with brushed motors ... while there were times people liked the way it worked, when they wanted it off, they still thought it was limiting the current somehow... so we just started going away from using them...

Now that brushless is such a different animal, we may start playing around with them again!

Hi Steve,

Seems to me like most guys are running the 17.5's in the 3.5-3.75 range... this will of course varry with motor and ESC combination... if you are using a speed control that has alot of timing advance like the new LRP you may need to gear closer to 4.0.

Hope this helps!

Swimbikerun,

You're right, the 4 cell GTBs have been discontinued... don't know the exact reason why, but someone around here must have had a reason for it!

We still offer the combos through our shopatron site though...

hey steve, I was just wondering why the XBR esc doesn't get a mention in your esc spec charts, I know it was replaced with the havoc but its a little different. It's like the xbr never exsisted.

just curious

Hey Chris,

I'm really not sure why they eliminated the XBR from all the spec charts... probably because the specs are pretty much idential to the Havoc...

Maybe they felt like it would be confusing having both ESC's listed...?

Hey Steve, I was wondering if the Novak 380 size motor had any timing built in to them? Thanks.

Yes they do!

We calibrate them the same as we do the 540 and 550 motors.

Hey steve, my friend's havoc 17.5 system started acting funny today. Basically it was thermalling when it would hit around 115 degrees on the motor. In order to complete his main he had to take a can of compressed air and flip it upside down to freeze the can...then it thermalled after he crossed the line to finish the race.

Question is, he lost his recepit. The system hasnt really been out too long (120 day warranty right?)...if he brought this in to the Novak place to get checked out would there be any charged? Is it an issue that has been brought up? Seems like maybe he got a bad one or something. I had him make sure Lipo cut-off was off thinking it was the lipo-cut off voltage drop issue others have mentioned, but that wasnt the case.

It may have been the speed control thermalling as well... Fan still have all its blades?
