Cain - Nothing makes the quad turn more RPM but it dosen't need to. Geared ~5.6:1 (final drive) in a sedan it will have more rip out of a corner than a 10 turn mod and it will be faster than a C2 or Ultrabird down the straight. It sounds impossible but its true.
AdrianM,

Thanks for the information.

Would that be two red springs or is there a heavier spring? The 5.6:1....what spur and pinion is that?

Sorry for all the questions....I'm a nitro guy trying to get an understanding of electric touring.

Thanks,

Tony

ADE -What car are you running? What size spur do you have on it?

Its 2 purples or heavier if you can find them. You can bend another 10 deg of tension into the purples and they are good. Reds are too soft.

The spur and pinion combo is different for every car as everyone uses different transmission ratios.

Here the formula for final drive:

(Spur/Pinion) x your car's transmission ratio = Final Drive

Example:

Schumacher Mi2

(95/30) x 1.8 = 5.70:1

Associated TC3

(72/32) x 2.5 = 5.63:1

with a 100 spur to hit a 5.9 in my tc3 I would have to run a 42 pinion, that just doesn't sound right, and I don't think a 42 would fit.

It also depends on your tire size as well unless you are only running rubber tires...

I've run up to a 100/49 before... the reedy QM's will take a LOT of gear, but I had to run a BMI conversion to get that kind of gear on there.

The stock TC3 has to have a much smaller spur to get that kind of gearing on it. Usually a 90 or 96 tooth spur...

And With an Xray, 5.6:1 is about 39/124 (ON 64 PITCH -and- WITH LOW RATIO GEARS). I just wanted to post this in case any Xray users are wondering what that comes out to.

Smalls - A 100/44 (5.68) would be a better gear. If it won't fit try a 96/42 (5.71)

You might have to run a smaller spur. I have the same car as Tempest. With the BMI chassis you can run a big pinion. With 59 mm tires you need to run about a 45t.
