The new 417X metal battery holders do look nice, but it looks like they also weigh a lot more than the 417 ones? From looking at the pic on Stilo's post, the 417X ones weigh a combined total of 42g. Those on the 417 only weigh ~15g.
My 417 is only a few grams over the 1350g minimum weight limit at my club, and thats with all 3 of the standard 417 battery holder in place. I wouldn't really want to add another 25g, plus maybe more weight on the electronic side to balance the car, if I change to the 417X...

I know the new ones look nice, but I still wouldn't run them, much like I have never run them on the 7. They look ugly, and there are better ways to hold batteries in, IMO.

I think it would do well at the C. Last big race I attended at the C, the 417 Setups from TITC (look at Peticrc.com) were really good there. Q3 I believe.
The C is a unique place. The thicker chassis is worth looking at.

today got my parcel from Smokem (now HK): The possibly narrowest lower deck for the 417 ever made (88mm). Also instantly available on my eShop.
Surface finish is amazing (very shiny). Also the cut quality is on a very good level.

Just picked up my first 417 and have a 417x on order, what is the difference between the split block or solid arm mounts?? Does it give the car more flex with the split blocks?? Or just more tuning options??Sorry about all the questions. I have always run xray.. Also what are some of the MUST HAVE OPTIONS for this car?? I will mainly be running on a high bite carpet track with rubber tires. Thanks for the input..

do you guys think i should get the trf 417 or a tc6 or should i get a 416, and how much does a 417 cost or should i get the xray t3 12. i cant decide. Where do you get parts because everything is in hong kong and it will take a while for the part to come.

I just take some small squares of plastic (the transponder holder is good for this), and super glue them to the bottom of the pack with the cells in position, making sure the locate into the chassis holes.
I also use a small forward stop, using a plastic servo mount and countersunk screw, like on RCsquare's picture.

Essentially, the combination of the Exotek HARD and Arts setup from IIC were right combination of car that had great tunability, consistent fast laps and most of all great feel for carpet even when the bite was at its greatest. I was happy that I always had a great feel for a car that didnt stall mid-turn but also didnt dig in when the bite came up regardless of the OG32, Jaco Blue or Solaris tires. After some period of getting a setup dialed in, I found that the chassis was even more responsive with the firmer chassis.
Out of the box, I was always challenged with finding a great carpet setup for the car. Had a killer outdoor season with the car but dreaded coming back to the carpet with it. I hooked back up with Exotek. Mike has done some great work for me over the years. It was not only essential to getting the perfect cut and finish but using the right material.
You will find the Exotek HARD will complement the 417 especially for the carpet season. Some folks have made the stock setup highly competitive on carpet. For the rest of us, there is a chassis that can help get you dialed in sooner.
