Hey Oli,

Can't get to twitter (damm chinese firewall), but could you check with the guys what their running wheelbase wise? Looking at the Rd5 pics of Marc's car, looks like cut top-deck and split blocks again... but the front wheelbase/ackerman looks almost like it's on 0mm! Have a look at Jilles' too please

he is running a custom chassis plate tho, so his settings may need to be different for that.

Here is the set-up sheet link.

I'm still playing with springs etc atm, but its really getting there. I did get pretty frustrated at one point, and think of getting a 3mm chassis made for carpet, but the car is going pretty well now.

Cheers dude...will let you know how I go with it. I ran my 416X last year with lipo chassis at same venue. Ran Jilles base foam setup with HPI Gold and Pink springs on the car. Was pretty weapon. Thanks for posting.

no problem, as I say, with teh springs I am switching between white and blue at the front atm, I think Blue seems to give me a little more steering, but I am rolling a little more than I would want on the high speed corners.

Looks like both Marc and Jilles are running non standard chassis, so I assume Viktor and Elliott would be the same... Give away is the slight indentation in front of the suspension mount points

nice spots... couple of things. Rear of the top deck was cut as well. And the motor mount will probably have been made into a two piece as well.
And I bet more than anything the vertical motor screws are to making meshing the motor easier... with the horizontal ones, the motor moves during tightening of the mesh, making it difficult to mesh right (IMO).. so I bet Marc has changed it to make it a bit easier :P

don't forget they are running rubber's so quite a bit different to foams (in reference to the comment about flex).

Actually, the Tamiya chassis plate is particularly flexie anyway, due to the way the carbon is laid up. it's mostly all 0/90 fibre orientation, with no ±45. Hence it's very stiff longitudinally, but also flexible in torque (twist).

The changes made to the car are pretty much about adjusting the balance at certain points of the car. The cut top deck really isn't as big a change as you would expect, and neither are the suspension blocks. You make a change to the layup of the chassis plate, it will affect the whole thing, not just the areas they are looking at. Not saying it's perfect, but gives an idea of why this way rather than changing materials

Anyone have a setup for IIC last year using 417(was it out)?

Just curious as I will be going for the first time and want a decent base setup.

Modified setup is fine but I will take a decent 17.5 setup as well.

The 417 got announced during the first day at IIC last year...I remember walking over to marc and we were talking about it. The funny part was that Marc did not know anymore about it then I did.

I think you will see split blocks on the car with Jilles snowbirds setup as the starting setup!
