im thinking of picking up a tc6.
is their a newb page to help beginners out? to set up tc6? is their any parts that should be replaced right away? #31286 Ball stud washer - To achieve most setups and can be used for arm spacing. #4617 Bulkhead shims - To replace plastic clip spacers. #31558 6 deg caster block - To achieve some setups. #1401 Turnbuckles - To use camber link in the shock tower setups. #31262 Silver anti roll bar set - To achieve some setups. To race non boosted stock classes you will probably also need a smaller spur gear. |
The XRAY 96t spur works perfectly for stock! For mod/boosted classes I like Associated's 115t since it is wider.

The parts that are supplied make the car good right out of the box. But the following are what I suggest once you get the car up and running:

But mainly the car is very competitive out of the box, won the 1st round of the Nationals with one. |

I like the Kimbrogh gears that Associated uses, the Xray stuff is just over priced to me for what it is. Granted its nice, I just dont think its worth the premium they want to charge |

I've never gone over 4.00, but I run a Duo 2. I hear the RevTechs like shorter gearing! If my D2 wasn't still running good I'd have a new orange speed machine.

Thanks Rick and Jorge for the tips. I was going to purchase the entire rollbar kit to get the silvers, I didn't realize you can get it separately. The money I saved I put towards the rest of items you suggested (I already have the 6 deg blocks).

It's an outdoor track but it's not overly huge, I only have the standard spur ATM and was wondering what pinion to start off with

I believe most guys are using aluminum shims/washers by the way, noticed you have a 417 for sale, is it not a good car? |
How do you get the rubber seal out of some of the smaller bearings without destroying them? They are so thin. Anyone have a link for cheap bearing replacements? Which bearings need cleaning the most?
|
honestly I think taking out rubber seals, or any seals for that matter, for cleaning or blasting out the grease for the minutest friction reduction is overrated!
I use to be anal about a free rolling car, but really what difference would it make? How would you measure this performance increase?... 1 car length per lap?.... 0.2f cooler temps? haha get my drift?? I would replace my bearings from ebay, usually can get a whole car set delivered for around $12-13. |
