It would hablve to be a date set into place to work towards . can't just say starting now ... Lol

Yea, that's what always kills the idea, but they are so darn cheap, durable, and equal that it seems a shame not go that route. Less than $100.00 for motor and ESC...seems like a no brainer. But I keep thinking like a shop owner that wants to make the racing fair and inexpensive at the local level. I guess that doesn't work on a National basis.

What tires, motor and FDR are you aiming for? We've got a GT class over in Vic with Volante 36, Muchmore 17.5 fixed timing, 3.5 FDR. Would be good to get some parity between states.

We're aiming for similar rules as yours, Volante tires (36 in summer, 32 in winter), 17.5 fixed timing motors, and a fdr that's yet to be determined between 3.5 & 4.0

Esc's will remain open to any ROAR/BRCA approved "blinky" esc's

I have tested both the Much More & Pro Amps (Hobbywing 3650) 17.5 fixed timing motors. While I feel that the Much More motor has more torque & power, the price of the Pro Amps is much lower, but putting things into perspective, the MM motor is still way less expensive than many other "premium" motors on the market.

Hopefully we'll be able to come up with a rule set, which appeals to the majority of those that are interested, and attract new (and old) racers to the hobby.

Rob.

VTA was forced to change the rules due to the demise of Novak.

jiml 09-16-2016 07:50 AM

Are VTA bodies allowed in USGT?

Well, yeah. That's obvious to all of us who all of us who run VTA.

Arizona Scale Racers recently dropped a 5.5 FDR rule that we had used for years, which was not a bad idea. We still have inequities though, like some guys charging at 70 amps. We also do not run on treaded tires, opting for slicks instead.....although that may change for our state championship race coming up in November.

Until every group decides to run on 1 set of rules regarding fixed timing motors, non adjustable ESCs, limiting charging amps and running treaded spec tires there will be people complaining. Personally I would like to see a set of rules written like VTA that people around the country could adopt in the interest of reducing costs and increasing competitive racing. Some people like myself would have some initial expense to change over but I believe the end result would make the class more attractive for beginners and expert drivers.

I think the current rules are pretty easy to follow and there is no need for changing to a spec motor. And like any form of racing, the fast guys will always be fast and the rest will question why.

Even if you spec everything, someone is going to complain. If you spec the body, people will complain it looks boring with the same body everywhere. If you don't, people will complain different bodies perform better. If you spec the motor, people will complain that they have to buy yet another motor. If you don't, they'll complain about performance advantage.

Raman 09-16-2016 08:56 AM

I think it's a little late to switch to a spec motor and esc. That should have been done with the class switched from 17.5 to 21.5. If it is done now, a lot of people will be put off, considering many have bought spent $ on their motors.

jiml 09-16-2016 08:58 AM

While I agree with a charging current limit, how would you enforce it?

NutDriver 09-16-2016 09:04 AM

Spec chargers!! That's what we need!!!
( I'm kidding )

Yeah, a racers life....if it's not one complaint it's another.

Definitely... truth in that. He who pleases all pleases no one. LOL

I think the spec motor thing would be more appealing to certain clubs who have members demanding that method of implementing parity.

jiml 09-16-2016 11:00 AM

Now we're complaining about complaining?:sneaky::D
