When I ran in the TCS race locally with my FF-03 I had to remove the foam bumper as it wouldn't fit under my body shell. Rather than use nothing, I added some peel and stick foam insulation tape that worked very well. No issues passing tech.

Default SPEC R Swing shaft

Hi,

Did anyone tried Spec R Spring Steel Swing Shaft 44mm For Tamiya 416 on FF03?

Default Do I need the optional blue motor mount for brushless motors

I would like to get a kit FF03 Civic but do I need the optional blue motor plate to make best use of a 17.5 or 13.5 novak havoc spec motor.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

My LHS told me that I'll need to change the plastic brace to carbon one on the opposite side of the motor plate inorder to fit brushless motor.

Not really, blue looks cool and it has some extra machining to lighten it a little.

I have an LRP X11 in mine and it fits fine with the stock side brace.
I've also seen other motors with the stock piece too.

That could be a huge bonus to get the FF03 accelerating out of corners harder.

Yeah this along with the updated Idler gear, should enable us to focus more on the chassis setup rather than worrying when the tranny is going to go. Oh and maybe we will get lucky and Tamiya will offer this (re-labeled) as they did the re-labeled Spec-r for the 416, and we can use these in the TCS series

What's the updated idler gear? How does it differ from the one in the pro kit?

Yes it is the reinforced gear set from tamiya, I stripped the stock yellowish idler gear in my TRF 201 but no problem ever since I change to the reinforced set. It should work great on the FF03 too.

Well that shoots straight to the top of the list for option parts to buy with my FF03... have run a Spec-R diff in my TRF's for a short while now, and love the easy low maintence aspect. Fill with 1000wt, and leave be...

Re: Pricing between the 03 and 03 Pro,

In the UK at the moment, the Pro is £3 cheaper than the Civic kit at the moment. Not sure how that compares to other markets.

The pricing on the Civic kit is very high. You can buy in HK for around 80 GBP plus post

I looked at the website & I definitely want one!

I have seen 'other market' idler gears & such available & wondered if they offer an altered ratio to utilise the torque in the brushless motors & not have the huge pinions looking something like 2 spur gears mated together?
