F. alonso.. i used a 70T and a 72T 48P spur on my former evo. i think you go all the way up to 76T before you start hitting the chassis. i remember that was the limit for my former barracuda R3 :sneaky:

What are you doing up at this hour? Can's sleep with all the guilt from defecting to Yokomo?

Beat ya, here we run the Monster Stock at 8.2 - 8.5 if the track is a bit twisty. I'll take a pic of the track somewhen (not this week, but next week) if you guys want to know where we have to run these crazy ratios.

PS : yes it's really twisty and laptimes are between 14 - 16s depending on the week and tightness of the track.

I run a 77 tooth spur on mine, any smaller and the pinion wont reach if your running low turns. I run 7 turn with a 18 to 20 tooth pinions.

F. Alonso 02-17-2005 08:25 AM

So you gear between 8.83 and 9.81?? Just want to make sure I got my gearing chart all good for 48dp.

Also... do you have any more clearance between the top deck and and the spur gear?? What's the biggest Spur you've tried?? I just wanna get the biggest spur that I can fit in there and stick with that, just buy lots of different pinions.

I really have a love affair with Tamiya. I think that they are great chassis with no holes barred to get the most precise construction and quality of components. I will run Tamiya as long as I can withstand the pressures of joining a team through an importer. I just wish that something could be done within Australia to get the numbers up in the top level of the game. There are some great Tamiya Runners here, such as the current Tamiya F1 World Champion, Bradd Vercoe. I just am dismayed by the lack of support. Hopefully someone will come to the rescue soon to bring Tamiya to the top of the Australia Racing Scene. I'm gonna do my best but its hard when you have to pay retail for everything :P
I think it's quite the same everywhere as the support is entirely up to the distributor/importer...

However, I think things might be different over here as the fight for market share (between two different brands among 2 distributor) has began intensely.... well the previous dist got to another brand while the new one takes over the twin star brand... heck... it's kinda complicated.

anyway, the love for the stars are immense among local racers and we're holding it tight... it's all among the racers... some will defect and some will stay...

godspeed.... ;)

has any1 tried the new suspension mounts (XA, XB, XC & XD)?

how are they compared to the normal ones?

F. Alonso 02-17-2005 08:49 AM

From what I understand from the 415 blocks, these are just narrower then the X block. So XA is another .5 deg narrower and so on until XD. I've heard some people have been very impressed with the cars once you get them a bit more narrow, so I think it'd work well. I'd like to try something like XB at the back of the front, with B at the front. So its narrow, as well as having the swooped arm effect.

syntex1 02-17-2005 01:46 PM

for tftr your gear ratio should be between 7.9 to 8.5 for an 8 depends how u set up the motor and timing
also for a 9 would be closer to 7.8 to 8.3
this is with v2s and 5mm arm

F. Alonso 02-17-2005 04:12 PM

Oh okay, thanks for that. I was using 8.3 on the weekend and I wanted to go lower. It was a BAAAAAD weekend unfortunately. For some reason my car just didn't want to handle at the top end of the track, but was pretty good at the bottom of the track. WEIRD!

syntex1 02-17-2005 05:20 PM

try running stiffer rear oil 40front 45rear 0r 50rear should help also try running some anti dive in the front

patrick 02-17-2005 06:15 PM

The problem is not the spur hitting the top deck, but hitting the ground. I tried an 81 tooth spur, but it stuck out past the bottom of the chassis! I think 78 or 79 would be the largest you would want to use.
