PIIHB did you get the price worked out yet for the EVO IV? When are you going to pick the car up? Think you will have it ready for Jan 8th racing or do you have to work that weekend?

It'll be in the $370ish range and I'll pick it up tomorrow. Yea I gotta work on the 8th :(

Are you going to try to have it ready for Sunday or are you going to take more time and have it ready for the week after the 8th? Not sure if I'm racing offroad this Sunday or go to RCO. I'm thinking offroad since it is 15 minutes from my house and the later start time at RCO will possibly make it a late night and I don't want to rush around to charge my batteries.

I'll run it the week after the 8th. I will rush nothing on this car! :D

Cool. I don't blame you on that. The more time and effort you put into the build the better it will be for you. Clean the bearings good before you put it together and I would also get yourself a 100 tooth 64 pitch gear if you are running 64 pitch. I like the 100 over the stock 96 tooth in this car. If your usin 48 pitch then don't worry about it.

I'm runnin 64pitch. I'll pick up a new gear when I pick up the car.:)

EVO IV chassis
 

Don't forget to sand the chassis edges, battery slots and tape slots and then CA all the edges. I use Emery cloth and put the chassis in a vice grip with rubber mounts as not to damage the chassis. I use a long strip of emery or like 400 grit paper with the chassis in the vice and just go back and forth to get nice smooth finish. Works great with the vice holding the chassis. The outside edges I use the CA and put on a heavy bead and just move the chassis around and let the CA run around the edge.

I used a dremmel grinding wheel the same diameter as a cell...

It made quick work of the battery slots and the cells seat nicely...

Then I used a cotton bud loaded with CA to run all around the chassis edges and battery slot edges...

Drivetrain binding up?
 

hey evoIV drivers.. any of you guys notice your drivetrain bind up a little after a major hit/crash?

not here, Chris... i have the Tamiya alum drive cups and input shafts, and no binding as of yet.

although, the track i race at is pretty car-friendly. ill know more next week at Novak!

wes, the reason i bring it up is i found something a bit weird last night. i race at socal (with wood barriers and concrete retaining wall). when i launch my car off a metal dot into one of those lovely concrete walls.. the car naturally gets tweaked. well.. i always take off my pinion and spin the drive train. i noticed that after a major crash, the motor mount moves every so slightly and binds up the bearing that holds the rear input shaft.

i took off the screws that hold the upper deck into the motor mount and they dont line up correctly. so i always check for tweak now (after every run) and make sure the drivetrain spins freely AND check the motor mount also.

i also took a reamer and made the holes a TAD bit bigger for the motor mount screws.

Chris.. how did you like my slow mo hit-the-dot-with-a-twist during our practice session? That is probably one of the funniest crashes I had in years! Made my car look like an ice skater doing the triple lutz! :lol: I still wish I was able to race... :cry: The evo looked hooked during our run... :nod:

Those type of dots really send touring cars flying!!!!!!!! Our track had them when we raced out in a parking lot and man if you hit them it was ugly for the ar and great for the spectators!!!!!!!!!!:nod:
