thanks madjack!
Steve, i'll be checking regularly - i'll order them as soon as you get them, along with the RIDE MKII body. I just finished painting it. Can't wait to get it out on the course! vic |
Hey, how are you guys finding the bevel gears for the one-way?? In 3 runs, I have broken 2 of them, mainly from the screw coming out of the prop joints and the bevel gear coming off and getting jammed in the gearbox. How is everyone else finding them?? Does anyone know if there is going to be a reinforced material for the bevel gear.

Hmmmmmm, well I didn't use it then but I have now. I really need to get some more of those gears as spares. The mounting for the pin has become completely mangled now which is a bit of a bummer. So basically I am only gonna run the next few races with a piece partially mangled, but I have used a dab of superglue between the shaft and bevel gear, so hopefully all should be good, but I've also heard of the entire gears getting MANGLED so that there are no teeth of the crown of the bevel gear.

bevel gears
I too used locktite, just a dab though!! it's never backed out on me yet. That's probably one thing I don't have a spare for!!

mine almost got mangled. i tapped a few boards last week and decided to check the drivetrain :) the front screw backed out almost all the way. screwed it back in.
gonna have to get some locktite soon :) |
well, had the same problem....the alum one-way ate up my bevel gear because of the screw loosening up. I threw awy 2 bevel gears already. fortunately, i have a lot of spares left. I put thread lock this time and it still ok. Hmmm. i didnt know thatthe screw need CA. I will Have to check on the instructions again.

I already lost 5 bevel gears due to the screw loose out.

How do you folks like the Evo IV from the Pro4? Whats the diff between the two?
|
pro 4 vs Evo 4...
Yep, im interested to know. had a choice a month ago and i chose the evo 4. many racers in our place use the pro 4 and they say its a really good car. i tried running it for a couple of laps but was not able to really test it. it would be great if somebody could share there experience. |
I had a Pro4 with all the BMI conversion on it. Nice car but when I needed to order parts they were always on backorder. Might of changed now but my EVO IV works better than the Pro4 did any ways. Another nice thing is my shop is big into Tamiya so getting parts is easy and they seem to most of the part available when my shop orders them.
The Pro4 don't have anymore features than the EVO does. They are actually very similiar in design but you get the best shocks out on the Tamiya car. |
I never noticed the CA reference either and chewed one bevel gear. On the next one I reinfoced it by filling the two cavities on the sides of the pin with CA and letting it dry. Then I used Loctite to hold the screw in and I have not had any problems since. I run mod and really powerful Redline motors so I figure that should be a pretty good stress test.
I do pay very close attention to the shimming of my diffs, oneway, and spool and they are all different. I always make sure the gears are shimed perfect with very little backlash. |
