You know what that means right?? If Associated is willing to free up a few bucks to develop a new 12th scale-then 12th scale is BACK!!! YYYEEEAAAAHHHHHHH!!!

But-its basically a 4-cell L3 so not too much new stuff.

Black-Knight, how are you liking your Reflex 12?

I am thinking of getting one in month or so and would like to hear how people like them..

It's either the Reflex 12 or the new C12 by CEFX that I will get..

On a sad note, I broke my Rev3 yesterday.. I think that is what caused my car to be squirly... I broke the speedtune turnbuckle..

Thanks

rayhuang: very true..

The 10L4 comes with all the IRS goodies that the L3 didn't....

So, a 12l4 may make getting a an AE car cheaper, considering all the guys I know who get them have to spend $$$$ to get the extra goodies...

Main thing would be the IRS type of axle.

Plus, 6 cell 12th is dead for the most part.

The RC12L4 shown at the Snowbirds has two changes from the RC12L3. First, the chassis is a thicker plate with fewer cutouts than the 12L3 chassis. This looks even stiffer than the special thick plates made for the team drivers. Second, the castor blocks on the front suspension come in 5 degree as well as 10 degree and 0 degree reactive castor. There is also a place in the middle of the castor block to mount a retaining collar for the hinge pin or mount a stiffener that connects both sides. This appears to be their response to the IRS castor block system.

Are there any pics of the L4?

Just to throw fuel into the fire......

I talked with two Associated "employees" over the weekend that told me about the new 1/12 car:

Going to use IRS large "D" diff ring axel, BUT.....Associated has decided to make there own hub. Not sure why, if there going to outsource to IRS for there excellent axel, wouldn't they outsource there excellent hubs too. I found that odd and asked why? Just got a shoulder shrug......

Batteries to be oriented logways, instead of the L3 sideways.

Front end to have the adjustable caster at 0,5, and 10 degree options.

Two chassis thickness available, one for carpet and one for asphalt.

Sounds like a good car! Associated is just a few miles from my local track. There is no carpet racing here, but I'm hoping to get to try one of the prototypes on the asphalt here at SoCal.. If I do, you'll be the first to hear!!!

Seems like there are very few updates to the 12L4. The large diff, new castor blocks and filled chassis are really the only updates. You have to look twice at the car to notice the changes.

They raised the price $50 and took the tires out of the kit. And seeing how the new car does not have lowered rear pods, better plan on buying lots of tires.

If that's the case, I will not get a new AE car... I like Associated but for $200 I can get other cars that I don't have to spend extra $$ after I get it..

if you buy the IRS lowered pod plates-they pay for themselves as soon as you use three sets of tires down to 1.75" or so-which you could never do with the stock pod plates.

Go with the CRC lowered pods, they are about half the price of other pod manufactures.

Until I get better, I am going to stick with my Rev3 although I am looking at getting a different car for comparison...

Thanks for the info guys.

I'm about to run 12th scale for the first time in many a year. Where abouts should I start gearing a stock motor (monster or binary) for an 8-minute run? On a medium-to-large size carpet track.

rayhuang 02-26-2004 11:26 AM

1.65 for Binary

1.85 for Monster

speedxl 02-26-2004 11:35 AM

yes area i saw the car in person afew of the stuff you guys said is accurate the front end has a couple upgrades to make it more adjustable. the rear pods are different i believe that the axles can run lower to get more life out of the tires, and axle and the hubs aswell they also use they also use the larger diffrings the the chassis is thicker and there are no cut outs were the electronics mount.
