New Question - Servos

1. What servo specs for torque and speed are required for 1/12 racing?
2. What servos seem to be preferred?
3. Is there a Spektrum or JR servo that will work well?

Hey Frank

I hate to be that guy, but: http://www.rctech.net/forum/californ...ll-so-cal.html

That literally answers all of your questions. The JR Z3650 is very popular, as is the Futaba S9650. The JR has metal gears but weighs more.

Hope that helps

Awesome, thanks. Being that I work for Horizon, and the JR Z3650 has been recommended by a few, it makes my choice easy

Frank, I know a lot of guys who've had success using the Spektrum SPMSH5020G servo as well.

I've always used a JR Z3650. It just works, and it's on the smaller side compared to some others as well. It's been transferred through many 1/12 chassis.

Frank, I put in a Spektrum 5040 vs. the 5020g, the 5040 has about twice the holding torque and is plenty fast @ .10sec. Plus they are cheap to replace if needed!

The one thing I will note, I started off using the Kimbrough 113 servo saver that was recommended in the CRC Altered ego manual, but found it to be WAY too soft and left the front end wagging badly as the saver gave up to the steering forces. I am currently using a Tamiya high torque unit I found on the shop shelf, but think it could use an upgrade as well. Just something to consider during your build.

Good to know. We pin the servo savers in oval...

The A5040 is very impressive. I'm using one in my 17.5 TC, and it works great. It wouldn't even break a sweat in a 1/12 scale.

Or the CRC 5008 bit for even better results.
