yeah switch to 64pitch and you're set. Keeping it 48pitch results in "omg dremel" syndrome. ;)

The only reason to dremel the cam if you are running VTA is if you want to run a spur gear larger than 84 and run the max allowed FDR or 4.2 In the case of an 88 tooth 64 pitch spur you can run up to a 52 tooth pinion for a FDR of 4.23.

However as TeamGoodwrench has suggested above run an 84 tooth spur and a 50 tooth pinion to get exactly a 4.2 FDR if you are running the USVTA class. This is assuming that you are using the 21.5/lipo motor option.

The intent of modifying the TC3 chassis, cam, or any other part of the car for many racers is to use what they've got without spending any more money. While I would always recommend to any racer to buy the gears that allow the best fit without any alterations, I also think it is important to let racers know how they can modify their existing components. After all a TC3 cam is around $7-8 new and probably will last the life of the car. On the other hand a 64 pitch spur gear can be just as much and can easily be ruined by debris or poor gear mesh.

I'm getting my TC3 ready to race again. This time I'll be racing in SoCal the OC Circuit. I havent raced the TC3 in about three years and back then was with a 10 turn motor and 3300 batteries. This time It's a Novak Havoc with a 17.5 SS motor, and a SMS 4500 mah 28C Lipo. I cant imagine what the difference will be but I think I'm going to like it.

Still happy to be part of the TC3 family.

I run VTA with 48 pitch gears. 35/60 gives you 4.29 FDR, which is close enough. I had to dremel just a little from the web under the pinion. Other than that, the fit is fine -- no cam work needed.

I've run a 84/50 for VTA on a TC3/TC4 which is also a 4.2. If you run that large of a pinion you will have to dremel out the area of the chassis below the pinion.

I'm planing on running a 75/53 (3.5) 64p. So far it looks like it will work. I don't see any clearance issues. I haven't run it yet I get my battery Friday.

I am running a 84/50 64 pitch for VTA and it works perfectly. Just wanted to thank Indy RC Racer and Team Goodwrench for their suggestions in this thread.

You are right I didnt notice it at first but a 53 pinion does hit the chassis just below the pinion. A quick dremel grind like you said did fix this.
