That's what I have in mine, gold springs and 30wt. I'll try the stand up position next since I have to tear the front end apart to get to the diff input. I noticed a lot of body roll at higher speeds so that may be the cure.

It doesn't appear that there are very many people still interested in the Cup Racer. So far I have heard from maybe three others interested in the machined metal front input drive cup for a total of (4). I can wait to place an order as I'm far from starting the building of my kit. If anyone else knows of someone that is interested in one of these drive cups can still PM me.

I was able to fix my front input cup with the suggestion I received here. I drilled three small holes in the end with a finger drill and CA'd pieces of a body clip in place of the plastic pins. It holds really well and looks like it will last a while. It wasn't that hard to do if you have the right tools.

While I had the front apart I swapped over to the stand up shock setup. It almost felt like building the kit again.

i bailed out of mine. the hinge pin braces are the worst.
sold it to a buddy, who eventually bailed on in too.

now we both run abc genetics.

the cup racer had alot of potential, but shoddy materials held it back IMO.

It's really a trick bit of kit, but I agree there are a few places that can be improved. Maybe HPI will re-release it with some updates. I also think they needed several more body options to really get the interest going. There are so many short wheelbase cars out there that they could use. They have the license for the Ford Focus. That would be an awesome M chassis body.

I love my Cup Racer! It's the only car I own that has stayed intact and runable for 3 years now. After I machined a carbon fiber hinge pin mount I have not had an issue with anything. Also try using the rear shock tower in front for the standup shock position. It seems a bit more stable in the turns. FYI I am running against mostly M chassis cars so to be more fair I run rear wheel drive only with the gear diff and a 21.5. Its quick and handles great! Just stumbled on this thread so thought I would put in my .02.

in a true 4wd mini class the cupracers can't compete. the abc genetic, ofna jl12e and atomic vw2 will run circles around them.

the cupracer can take out the traxxas rally cars though.

I have to concur with Rob.

Cup racer is one of my favorites.

I finally had the time to convert to the exotek chassis and aluminum shocks that I purchased a year ago.

Also have a 1/10 touring interior from Tamiya that I plan on painting and another Porsche body that will be painted to match a Vaillant-Kremer livery

Pics to follow....
