There's a 27T Tamiya pinion out there as well...you can get them farther down than that.

Thanks for the heads up....I found some on ebay.

Just to double check....TB-02s will only accept 0.6 gears?

With the a 52T spur and a 27T pinion, I will have the desired 5.0 ratio

I think you can use an EVO-III spur adapter and go to 48 or 64, but it's a real pain to get the lash right once you're "off the charts".

I have a couple of those pinions...let me know if you need one.

I don't want to mess around with the evo-III adapter...but if you do have some 27t pinion gears for metric 48p, I'll take one or two.

Yep...that's it. There are some aftermarket companies that make them as well.

I'd really like to sell the whole pile if possible...$30 shipped? All the spurs are new, except for one 55T. All the pinions are "near new" condition. One 21T is a little nicked.

I'm just curious- I'm a relative newbie at electric cars- I've been trying for the last couple of years to get into electric racing, but haven't made it to the track yet..

Anyways, I bought a TB-02, and have upgraded some parts here and there. I'm wondering why people consider the TB-02 obsolete, yet the TA-05 is still considered current? Didn't these two chassis come out at the same time, and share the same suspension?

Also, can someone point me to where it is documented how to shim out the driveshaft so the car won't strip the bevel gears?

The TB02 is considered obsolete because it really is not supported by Tamiya anymore. The TA05 is the current Tub chasis that is highly supported. As far as sharing the same suspension, the same suspension has been used since the TA04. The original suspension is still supported as well as different variations of suspensions developed over the years. All the cars back to the TA04 can use the different suspensions available.

The TB02 also has a very limited gearing selection which makes it hard to gear for the brushless motors being used now.

I think I'm the last one at Trackside to run a TB-02. The gearing can be geared down for 13.5, but it took all my Tamiya knowledge and the help of others to do it. After spending a lot of money, my TB-02 keeps up with all the pro cars. I would recommend getting the TA-05, it's Tamiya's flagship GT-2 car and it doesn't leave anything to the competition. I drove one last Sunday, and I tied my best lap time with his car...I did the same lap in about 5 laps(his gearing was right though).

Does anyone know if this aftermarket allows for lower gear ratios. This looks to have 7 positions up top as compared to the 4 from the factory tamiya one.

someone might want to know this before they go and purchase these "longer" shafts....they are no longer by anywhere near 2mm.

i have in my hand the stock shaft for the TB02, the TB02R shaft (blue), and the Evo III shaft.....i'll post pics of the shafts and my metric caliper showing they are all the same length.....

just thought i might save someone some money that i've already needlessly spent.

I got the lightened blue shaft...and the main difference is the size of the shaft where the bevel gear slides onto. Ran a race on the 1st and did not have one problem, even during "demo derby" practice before the qualifiers.
