Well with the nice weather we had over the weekend I did some more painting. I worked on four helmits and painted the interior of the Williams FW-18. The other three helmits are for future builds (Sauber C12, McLaren MP4/6, and a Williams FW-16. I still have to add some decals to the driver (crossing my fingers it works out) then I think I'm done...almost.

First step, glued and screwed the helmit together

Sanded down the edges

Mounted it for painting. I taped it down to a small bottle of paint. This helps too when I'm stickering, it's a little easier to hold on to. I used a clothing hanger to keep it away from my hands.

Added some primer and resanded. Then more primer.

I used the Tamiya polycarbonate paint (PC4) on this helmit so it matches the blue on the car.

Then repeated the process four times. I used gloss acrylic on the yellows and polycarbonate on the white.

I used the Jacques Villeneuve stickers supplied in the kit. The only problem is Tamiya wasn't so accurate with these (probably a licensing thing). His helmit has a pink line going around it. So this had to be painted free hand. I also added the Rothmans stickers, these where sort of thick and didn't lay down so well even with heat. That sort of bummed me out.

I painted the interior with flat acrylic paints and set the helmit in to snap off some pics.

Thanks for the comments. I'm doing what I can with what I've got. Translation - I'm broke and can't afford to go out anymore, so this keeps me busy. LOL

Thanks again guys. I'll post up more pics as I go.

Thanks Tommi, I'm working on it. I can only work on two at time...and when I say work I mean that in a limited way.

Hey all, I just saw this on the Tamiya USA website and thought I'd post up the link on here. It's pics of the new, RC F103R Chassis Kit - F103 15th Anniversary Edition, part number 84056. I'm SOOO getting one of these.

That's how they should have sold the car back in the day. Yep, it's on the must have list.

26800 yen is about $265 USD, not bad at all! I'll be getting one for sure.

I'll be getting one as well. I will put it on order at work tomorrow.

Does it pay to get the F103RM now or just wait for this version? I also want the F103GT Advan Mugen. Should I get this kit now and wait for the 15th Anniversary Edition to get a RM?

Just depends how bad you want a F103. Honestly if your like me and buy kits and decide to hop them up to the max, its much cheaper to go with the 15th ed. Other wise a RM with a $30 graphite chassis will be just as good. Most of the pretty blue items on the 15th ed are mostly bling with some small benifit being a better material (aluminum/graphite). But be warned these things are contageous! It wont matter which one(s) you buy you'll want the next kit that comes out, or even older F103's like I'm collecting now.

You're definitely right about them be contagious! I got my first Tamiya kit in years a few weeks ago, the IFSr.

Now I see all these other kits I want at work. I want the F103GT Advan Mugen, F103RM, F103R 15th Anniversary Edition and I also want the TT-01 Type E Golf GTI Cup Car. I am sure I will want others int he near future as well.

I think I will get the F103RM tomorrow. My co-worker said they are pretty limited. We were only allowed to order 2 and we only got 1 so far. We have a few of the Advan Mugen's, so I sill hold off on that one for now.
