TAMIYA F103 RM

I built and ran a new TAMIYA F103 RM, and it was very fun and easy to drive. I hope this becomes a TCS regular event.

So I thought maybe we can share tips and setups for this chassis.

Please include pics of you rides.

just ordered mine from rcmart yesterday. I still have my old f103 from a few years ago but its in a million pieces. I hope they will race F1 in Oz again, such a good class to race in. Hopefully we get the TCS too, we didnt have one last year.

Is that the Sauber shell? looks good.

BobbyS 06-26-2008 10:57 PM

Yes, Thanks!, showing a little wear, but it's an original Sauber C12 shell.

Bobby, how does youre front end compare to the solid one that is included with the "new" F103 RM.

Thanks for the great pics.

The front suspsension looks to be similar, except for the white steering hubs, the f103rx has the ame in blk plastic, and the lower braces look different too. :)

Bobby, the 103RM has the older front suspension on it. Many people racing the 103 went back to that front suspension because it was more consistant. The front end on your car has the active front suspension which has a moving upper suspension arm. The one on the 103RM has non-moving suspension arms and works by the king pin sliding through the arms. It's like comparing the old AE front end to the Dynamic Strut front end.

Here's a spring set that's available to tune (stiffen/soften) the active suspension parts for the f103rx/f103gt -> http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=50509

OK I want one too...much better looking than the 201!

InspGadgt 06-27-2008 09:50 PM

The F101 and F102 actually had a different front end from the F103 but it worked the same. The main difference is that it had 4 bolts holding the front end on. The F103RX and the F103GT came with the active front suspension. The difference between the RX and GT front end was the steering knuckles. So the F103, F103RS, F103LM, and F103RM share the same front end.

Now the question is did anyone notice the difference with the active front suspension. I'm not convinced of it validity since you still cant adjust camber.

BobbyS 06-28-2008 06:13 AM

I haven't noticed any problems with the independent A-arms.

GreaseMonkey 06-28-2008 06:17 AM

I believe that's more to do with the idea of keeping the class as simple as possible rather than it being better.
