I bought one, it's been relegated to "toy" status, has no real place on the track.
I'd grab an m05 or an 03 if you wanna race.

My M04 put 2nd place 2 laps down one race and the next i was way off the pace without changing anything on it and ended a distant 4th....

Once you get the setup right on your M-04, it can dominate. Setup is very similar to the M-03. On a tight track it will fall behind the FWD cars, but on a track with a good straight and a few sweepers...whoooo!

The tracks here allows m04's to run with m05's
would you say M04 is for the more experienced racers with better throttle control? and it is just as competitive against FWD minis?

Yeah, that's why.
If they're legal, with some set up you should have a lot of fun, beware though, a slight change in track conditions and your'e back to square one.
Did have a ball running it against TCs though, put some TC wheels on and widen the track with a wider hex and it's like a slot car.

I'll be racing my M04 at Fastcats, it's a bullet at the starting line. I can usually pass 4 guys to the first turn by the time their FWD wheels stop spinning. By the looks of the new track they put out (long straights, 180-deg turns), plus the fact we can use 21T pinions now, it'll be a very competitive car to race.. just be careful with the chassis, it's getting harder to find a replacement chassis.. looking for one myself, as the front joints going to the bulkhead can crack easily after a few hits..
I keep the M04 strictly for indoors, and have an M-03 dialed for outdoors. My M-05 is still in testing, I'll see where it fits in down the road.. I'm thinking carpet since it has a much lower CoG..

If I do end up buying a mini, I would most likely buy it to take it to fastcats also.

Looked on 3racing website, their diff looks alot like this.
Only they use 2.4mm ball and probably a crap thrustwasher like on the M03 diff.
Tested the M03 diff from them and it was the best diff i have ever used for 2 batterypacks, that's how long the thrustbearing lasted. Got a new thrustbearing sent from 3racing, refitted it and tested again. Same story, 2 batterypacks and the car sounded like it had vario-matic transmission. Then i tested with a thrustbearing from TA05MS, and it was no more problem with thrustbearing. Now the diff carrier melted.
So, my advise is not to get any gear parts from 3racing.
But in my eager to get a non TA03 diff to test i have gone and ordered the 3racing one. 
Will post back as soon as i know how it's like.... My guess is it's as bad as the M03 one.

I've found that it's best to shave a little off the corners and drill two new holes for the ballstuds. Build one of these and you're good for a long time.

I am going to buy a mini but which one the M-03 or M-05. I know that the m-03 is a proven winner but is the new chassis all that? I know not to many have the m-05/pro but I was just curious about them both. I'm torn
