How many would like to be running faster cars IF there was a legal Tamiya class?

I'm new to this class as of this spring. Fell off the sedan wagon many moons ago. If I want crazy racing speeds, I race mod micro when available (ECC, Onroad Nats...) - that's my thing.

I love the few mini races I went to because of slower pace (compared to 13.5 BL and lower...). With timing advance on speedos and such now where do you draw the line? The moment you spec a BL motor, then some speedo manufacturer makes that same motor scream way faster by turbo'ing it and advancing it with software advances... What's that you say? You may have to spec a new speedo too now? Cost is rising here.

Haven't some of you guys noticed the construction of a mini? Don't get me wrong I like them, but they are constructed like high end Radio Shack cars. Therefore meant to run at certain speeds.

Please let's stay away from creating two classes - stock and mod. Here we go diluting the class again. Everytime this happens you end up with less and less racers slowly killing the class.

I agree that it's frustrating that the silver motors aren't created equal - add to that the voodoo crap people do to their motors (legal and illegal) in order to get that edge (cheater's edge). I've always thought that keeping the motors where you race, having the track/race dyno all the motors and handing them out prior to each main (with deans attached to simplify things) could be done.

If you want to race mod, race mod sedan. Don't try and be a ringer in mini...

F N CUDA 05-14-2010 08:50 AM

did you see those fast minis?

Cmon, you know you want it like that.

That's why all the motors are gettin tweeked and named with colored dots.

Look at the Short Course truck frenzy.

Boxstock RTR class, 100%. Class is raging!

Stock class (17.5 motor), SC wheels and tires (aftermarket ok)

Open class, SC wheels tires all else open.

Don't you think minis can handle box stock for entry level and HEAVY scrutinizing (handout motors) then maybe stock where you can go quicker and not have to tweek silvercans but can run determined brushless or equal to.

Maybe not even an option, probably not enough minis at one place at one time (other than at TCS events) to dilute the field?

3 or 4 would make a class though.

Mod mini anyone?:sneaky:

Oh, yeah. :D

Check out the Memphis TCS event: no motor limits on silver cans and typically the LARGEST field of Mini's anywhere in the USA- two years ago there were 63 of the teeny little buggers (last year's first date got rained out). Sedan guys were standing at the side of the track with their jaws hanging open, saying "I didn't know Mini's could go that fast."

Sadly, though, no Left Coast guys were willing to make the scene...

Right on Doc, in racing anything goes. Some racers spend more money on speedos, servos, tires..etc. Why not spend money on motors.

C'mon, the only thing that's the same on a kit car with a silver motor is the color of the motor.
Now if there is a beginner mini class and sportsman/expert class that would be the case.

Because when we are there practicing, all of the cars are much faster than stock and it's not only because of their dialed handling/tire packages.

My favorite thing to say on the stand when practicing minis is:
"No fair passing on the straight"!:lol:

Probably cuz mine is as slow as a stocker.

Yeah...no passing on straights..LOL

Well, fair as in equal cars, no. I'm so far behind the curve it's not even funny.
Fair as in clean, always. ;)

I know the feeling...LOL

Hmmm maybe handout motors that you exchange every run?

ONLY if you want to really control the power issue, it's the only way.
Changed in front of spec. techs.
Pockets empty.
Now the beginners will believe it's about driving and setup experience.:sneaky:

Then have the open class, if some juice head wants to run a 5.5 and can pull it off, that will be what you need to catch him.

Now you can legally pass on the straightaways!

Sorry Doc, but we're living in the land of handout motors and rpm limits. I haven't worked on any motors in months. No point.

Wish you and Ray luck in Memphis tho.

Mini Cooper Truck? Could be either the ABC Mini Pickup (66045) or the Corsair Racing Mini Killer Pickup (BC-1801) - Both are SWB only.

2002 BMW Mini (Tam 50971) LWB

The other one you speak of is a Chevron Monster Mini - Rare as hens teeth most of the time apart from the odd one that pops up in Japan or on ebay. And it's SWB only
