Before you get TOO invested in this idea, has anyone in your group actually tried to mount the tire you're proposing to use on (either) one of the wheels you've shown? Those wheels are from HPI's "Vintage" line and don't have a "proper" front side flange to accept normal tire beads. They have a very skinny flange that the bead/sidewall of the Vintage tires "pinches" with the sidewall lapping over to give them a taller "old school" sidewall look.

HPI's Stock Car wheels are not from their Vintage line.... they are normal 26mm touring car wheels for use with X-Patterns. I have an old set and tried them out on my Mini earlier today. They work nice.:D

Trust me... we weren't going to try to force some X-Patterns on HPI Vintage wheels. It would be like trying to put a condom on an elephant!

Ah--my mistake. The wheels you showed look very much like one of the wheels in the Vintage line. Didn't want to see anybody spending money on a package that wasn't going to work, but sounds like you've got it under control.

Minis and this page is cool! If you cannot build a ultimate Mini Cooper with all the info throughout these pages ie: Minis for Dummies, tips from builders and drivers, drive a '74 Yugo. This is not a dig to anyone or anything.

You are not mistaken.... actually we are both correct.
HPI now has two versions of their Stock Car wheels, one for Vintage tires & one for Touring tires.:weird:

Yes it will, you have to cut the ridge off the inside of the battery holders with a pair of side cutters or the like. Battery fits like a glove!

bowl806 12-14-2007 10:27 PM

yep I agree about cutting inside of the batt holders. I got that tip from our page (Minis for Dummies) as well as other useful tips to make my Mini fly!

The rc-mini site also showed the new Tamiya way of doing it with another hole in the bracket but I think their way is better.

guys, i'm talking about the orion3600. not 3200. the 3200 fits like a glove. NOT the 3600.

I guess this is a ?? for Tony. Will an ABC Genetic hold up if I put a 27 turn stock motor in it??? There's not much interest in the 4 wheel drive minis here and I'll have to run with the TCs. I know it probably won't be competitive and it's just for fun. Also, I just hate seeing it just sitting there on the shelf..

tony gray 12-15-2007 11:26 AM

It sure will... We ran 2 of them quite successfully for 6 months or so at our indoor oval track. In both cases the cars ran 12 turn motors with no real trouble at all. Lots and lots of fun.

The only disadvantage is lack of weight. When a touring car 'leans on you' in the corners, you'll always come off second best..

But the car itself is quite sturdy and performs well.
