I worked on my CupRacer over the weekend.. thing is a piece of crap. Even my M-Rage does circles around it with maybe a few hours setting it up. I'm thinking about taking the electronics off of the CR and just use it as a display. I wasted so much money on spare parts thinking I could get this thing running again. :( Not that it ran that great to begin with compared to my other 4WD mini's.
So I will have a R614FS and S6040 that I can use on another chassis.. While I hate plastic chassis, I might give that new Suzuki a shot since it is 4WD.. MF-01X was it? |

I love my MF-01X with Team Bluegroove Monster Mini shell, MRage alloy shocks and M-chassis wheels, it's awesome on carpet. Can't wait to try it outside when the rain dries up over here. |

I bought a 2nd kit myself too for spare parts. Was going to use the dampers on my M03, but then decided the CVA super mini's on there already were fine enough. Is the MF-01X's gearing the same as the M03/M05's? :) |

The gearing on the MF01 is different than the other M chassis. It's closer to the TL01.

Yes, spare set from second car. Gearing is the same (I think - someone correct me if I'm wrong - not built a M03 or M05 gearbox for a while !) It should be the same as quite a lot of parts are interchangeable & I don't think Tamiya would invent a new set of gears when virtually the whole car is from other cars or parts. The kit comes with a 16 tooth pinion but I've put a bigger one in (22 if I remember correctly ?).

Type A slicks on the front with S Grips on the rear worked great for me on carpet. |
I ran Rally blocks all round on my M05 on a low grip, dusty track. The car pushed a bit mid corner but I was able to power it through corners without losing grip. Struggling for an indoor carpet set up though. I'm going to try the kit MRage click tyres as they appear very grippy.

I never understood why people felt this way about the CR. Seemed that people either loved it or hated it. I was one who loved it. Mine handled awesomely. In fact in the open 4wd class at a local track the CR ran circles around all other manufacturers ...the CR was the top car back in about 2010-11ish when they were still being run.
The biggest complaint about my CupRacer is that it likes to make left turns, but can't make right turns very well, push-under (plows) under acceleration. Geometrically the steering linkage and suspension is set up evenly. I even swapped the front/rear diffs so that I can change diff setting on the front (CupRacer's front diff comes with that silly 3 spring setup). The diff isn't the problem, I tried it from spool-like stiff to soft, something to do with the overall balance, drive train, and the torsional twist from the motor under power. I applied a lot of rake and added weights to the front too, still only marginally effective. My BSR M-Rage is almost identical to the CupRacer's layout, but it handles fairly evenly left and right given the motor orientation, and drives 10x better with only a few hours spent setting it up. Car is dialed, no extra weights used, and fun to drive. So it looks like HPI got its ass kicked by some cheap Chinese brand chassis that uses fake CF double deck and mediocre at best materials. |

Just put together an M05. Running a 21.5 Reedy, SP LPF esc and a wolf pack lipo 3300mah. What tires are good for indoor carpet? I have the new TRF mini dampers and would also like some info on where I can get the spring sets for them. It's the TRF mini big bore dampers. Also running a 3racing gear diff. Seems top end is kind of low, any thoughts? Just started with this class haven't raced yet. Owned a mini back in the day and loved it though. Running the Honda CRX body.

Sakadachi,
-sorry your CR'r experience wasn't great. I thought the car had potential and had always hoped that HPI would have released a V2 w/ improvements. In any case, I am not a fan of HPI's and won't purchase anything from them again either. |

Well worth the trip, If John doesn't have it, he'll get it for you ASAP! |

Try 17.5t if your track permits it. Anything lower is kind of wasted, just makes the car wheel spin more out of corners. Fast enough for a Mini though. |
