Has anyone any tips on building a smooth 3racing oil filled gear diff? I have built it as per instructions and find it stiff and notchy, I removed 1 shim from each side and it is better but not as I'd like. I notice that if I lossen the 4 screws holding it together it gets smoother which is not ideal having loose screws.
|
I have a vague memory of removing some flashing from the gears, take a close look at them. I also left out one large shim from each side and it feels pretty smooth.
|
Another thing to bear in mind with the 3Racing diff is that the standard o-ring seals are exceptionally stiff and cause a lot of drag. I'd run-in the diff for as long as possible to bed them in before choosing the oil and putting it in the car.
I've got a feeling I had to remove some flashing from the circumference of the gears, but I am running the full complement of shims in mine. Since each moulding is slightly different, adding or removing shims can help. |
Thanks for the replies guys i'll strip it down and check the gears for flashing then give it a good run in.

Stopped making them a few years back, you'll struggle to find them anywhere now.
Apart from HERE, pricey though Pricey indeed, may have to rethink a bit, might just spray the white rims I have instead. |
Anyone use tamiya CVA mini shock unit II on m05 with internal 4 - 5mm spacer to lower the car??
i race on smooth tight carpet track. I'm replacing 3racing body as they leak LOTS with this shock body. 3racing piston/shaft fits fine. Is there enough suspesion travel on those with 5-6mm ground clearance? |
I'm in the process of building a set of mini cvas for my father's m03, 63 years old and still racing! I test fitted the shocks and there's plenty of travel to achieve 6mm ride height with 55d tires but not 60d.
I have a question regarding oil weight with these mini cva shocks. I'm using m-chassis aluminum dampers on my m05, 400cst oil all round. What oil should I use with these cvas to get a similar damping action? My old super mini cvas had the clear 900cst oil, these mini cvas come with 400cst. |

Thanks Tony and MD,

Middle of the night, really bored question: What's the most useless piece of bling on your mini? Mine would be the carbon gear shafts. Not really blinky, but utterly pointless.
|
as for right now, its whole car. useless thing, that like to snap oversteer and understeer at every corner. lol.

So if someone was going to get a M05 just to beat around his block, would stock be ok (yeah....right) or are there some essential upgrades?
|
Jim, I may not be blingy, but I'm probably the most useless item that my car has.
