Has anyone on here switched from the stock screws on their mini to the titanium ones? I am trying to figure out if it is worth doing?

Can't think of a single reason to do it.

Durability? I haven't broken a single screw in 20+ years of racing Mini.

Weight? About 10 grams maybe, if that.

Granpa is right, there isn't a single reason why you'd bother doing it.

the only reason i could see is having hex heads, but you could buy all the hex screws for less than $10

if you want to go with machine screws, with a hex head, Yeah Racing makes a great stainless steel screw set that will keep you supplied for YEARS. It's also much cheaper than titanium sets.

There is one downside to machine screws and that is if you have to get into your gearbox in a hurry between races, the finer threads will double your screwdriver time.

i did it , BUT only because i got a shit load of titanium screws here and was building the car and i like the Allen key button heads

I actually measured the difference between the steel screws and the titanium set on a TA05 and it's about 30 grams. It becomes important if you're aiming for as low as possible a weight under class rules. Otherwise not justified the price. Besides, titanium screws are not as hard as steel ones and hex heads will strip just as well.

I think that if you have the right hex for the TI (which by the way I prefer over the Tamiya "Phillips") stripping should not be a problem.

All of this discussion on titanium screws is really a part of a larger topic which is what upgrades do you recommend ????? This has been asked a multitude of times. My philosophy and pocket book says as few as possible. They all fit in the following categories:

1. Increase the durability bearings, aluminum steering uprights, etc.

2. Make the car easier to work on TRF shocks, adjustable turnbuckles

3. Make the car go faster When you really think about it there are few if any upgrades that actually make the car go faster. We are not talking about motors here cause obviously a faster motor will make the car go faster.

When evaluating an upgrade or mod, it has to be justified by one of the above 3 ???? Let's take the titanium screw for example. Durability increase---probably not. Makes the car easier to work on---probably not. Makes the car faster-----you're kidding me. Verdict-----not worthwhile. Except where a tenth of a tenth difference in lap times is important. And that's damn near never.

One of the fastest Minis at our track is an M03 with the following upgrades-----ball bearings, TRF shocks, rear roll bar. That's it folks. A few spacers here and there and adjustable rear camber link made from 5mm short couplers and a 3x12 set screw. Sort of makes you wonder about all these upgrades.
