woodys3b - In the Summer of 2009 my friend and started a spec class with the TT01's and some of the guys dropped out so we ran with the some vintage guys who were running high end chassises with 21.5's. We were running Traxxas 20T stingers. We could stay with them in the tighter sections of the track and they pulled away from us on the long straight away.

I have a general question for the VTA regulars. I went to the rules page on the VTA web site and the HPI 69 Camaro body is not listed. Is it going to be added? This was probably discussed on previous pages of this thread. I apologize if this is true. Thanks.

Hi MD,

Unless I missed something, the HPI Camaro (part# 7494) is a 1968 and is listed in the rules as a legal body. It is also probably the most popular body for this class.

He's talking about the new 69 Camaro body, not the old 68 body. I'm not sure if it has been released yet but it looks like it was designed just for this class. We have already written it into our VTA rules at our track.

Now that I think about it, it probably won't work just because you are pretty limited in gearing with a TT-01. Not sure how high you can go but I'll bet it's now where near 3.7 fdr.

woodys3b - In our TT1's we were 25/55, but I don't know what the final drive ratio would be. You are right the gear ratios are limited with the TT01.

Some other friends and I are low budget guys and we think that RTR Sprint 2 with the 69 Camaro body and vintage tires and wheels is an opportunity for the vintage series to expand by adding a budget class. I know the cost is more reasonable with the recent motor and esc rule changes which a very good. But, what friend suggested to me was that the RTR Sprint 2 Camaro version was way to get more people involved. He suggested and I agree that it would be a box stock class, with no hop ups, and limited gear ratios. The RTR version comes with a 20T motor. I think you would have allow different radio systems. I know some people will object to the idea, but I think it's a good one.

I can't find a part # for the Camaro separately. If it ever comes out, we'll put it up right away.

I raced a FT TC4 in 25.5 VTA at the 1st leg of the 2010/2011 Hurricane Series this past weekend at The Track in Winthrop Harbor, Il. I was using a 25.5 Ballistic motor (that I originally had bought as a 17.5 Ballistic). The timing on the motor was set at the maximum + mark on the timing label (I think that is 30 degrees). I was running an 82 PRS spur to a 52 pinion for a FDR of 3.94. The motor was coming off the track after 6 minutes around 150 degrees F with no fan.

My lap times were a couple of tenths off TQ, but that was more due to the leader having better setup/driving than speed on the straight. I was able to qualify 3rd overall, just a few mistakes behind 2nd. I probably should have tried an FDR of 3.85-3.90 to see what my laptimes were, but overall I was happy with the speed of the car. I usually run at a smaller track, and most of us are running around a 4.0 FDR.

I can say that FDR's are going to vary more depending on size of individual tracks, timing on the motor, handling of the car, and motor temps. However even with the open FDR rule, I have yet to see any dramatic difference in straight speed between cars.

IMHO the current 25.5 rules for have brought the class back to where it was when I first started racing VTA a few years ago. The most encouraging thing I saw this past weekend was with a newer R/C racer improving 2 laps in the main by simply working on the setup of his car.

The factory pre-set timing for both our SS Pro motors and Ballistic Specs is 30 degrees. The Ballistic label either says "N" or "30" We suggest not changing the timing on these motors as 30 degrees is optimum timing for our motor design.

can any brushless motor be traded in for the 25.5 motor..or do it have to be a novak brushless

So, how did the FDR limits work out in Nashville. Curious to find out if you experienced the same thing that we did.
