I don't get the beef...it looks like they are staying pretty dang consistant w/ the U.S. VTA style rules, but mainly implementing it into their club racing.
I'm going to assume by what I'm seeing that Molzer Mowery Racing is basically promoting this class and have attached their name to it as such.
The more people, the more places that run VTA - the MORE exposure it will get...but I'll gaurantee you will have places make subtle changes to the 'OFFICIAL' U.S. VTA Rules to fit the needs of local hobby shops and/or local racers. (Which is no different than CLUBs who use ROAR, or ROAR's Rules)
The biggest downside or issues I think you are going to see w/ VTA classes are, IF IT GAINS POPULARITY and are included in LARGE Events...the class will become corrupt, and guys will SANDBAG it if they think they could get something from it.
Then, as numbers grow and NEW racers learn to drive...they will want MORE SPEED, but won't want to leave THIS class...they will call for a EXPERT Version that can go a little faster... (which in all reality could still NOT be an issue....cause that could split the 21.5/LIPO away from the 4 cell segment...and be run as two divisions in the same class, much has Trans/Am racing really was)

While we talking VTA at the moment....
To the guys running TC3's with 21.5 or 17.5....
If you are still using a stock 72t 48p spur gear...HOW Big of a pinion have you been able to stuff on there...and if you made modifications to get bigger gears, what all have you done.

SWTour, I recommend finding a smaller 48 pitch spur. According to Tower Hobbies, Robinson Racing makes a 60 and 66 tooth 48 pitch spur. Here is a link on Tower (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=robinson+spur). For the 21.5 in a TC3, you should be able to make gear ratio using a 69 tooth spur. I know that really doesn't answer your question but a $6 dollar spur can be cheaper instead of buying new pinions.
PM me if you want me to test out what is the biggest pinion I can get on my TC3 with a 72 spur (48 pitch if I have one).

I can confirm a 69t 48p kimbrough spur fits fine in a tc4...that's the smallest I could find for a tc4, I'm just don't know if the TC3s are the same..

I think if you read it closer you will see that they want you yo join and run it at your local club.....

Thanks guys... I have smaller spurs, I just didn't feel like changing it (I'm being lazy)
I hogged out the gear area...modified the top cover and was able to stuff -- 72/36 on a 17.5 motor....but I'm wanting more
I have a robinson 66 that will probably end up on it.
ALSO for guys using 64 pitch I got an email from ROBINSON RACING this morning..they NOW make 73 and 75 tooth SPURS

From personal experience, very few people in this hobby ever voluntarily opt for slower racing. I'm sure that VTA will long out live this MMR thing. I race VTA with the 21.5, as does most of the others at my track; I'm pretty sure if we suggest to the guys running brushed that we are going to not use the 21.5 anymore they'd even think it's bogus.... they can't wait to buy the new Havoc 21.5 system. Everybody wants a little speed eventually.

PRS makes a 64-pitch 76-tooth spur. And they make 64-pitch pinions all the way up to 65 tooth !!

On my TC3 the largest fit I could get in using 48 pitch was the 69t spur with a 35t pinion and it was a VERY tight fit and was a 4.93 final
I would reccommend if possible going to 64p as there is alot more room to work with and will allow more combinations with room to spare. Im now running a Robinson 78t 64pitch spur with a 46t pinion to give me a 4.24 final drive (2.5 internal) and there is still room to spare if you needed more.

I was running 4 cell STOCK on my VTA, this let me FRY all the remaining STOCK motors I had...
I'll go to 21.5 sooner or later, but I still have a few 4 cells to RUIN first...
So, I stuck the 17.5 in for now...
We run a HUGE layout...
I know all the PRS gears (we use them ALL for Velo racing (they actually make a 72t and a 74t spur now too)
