The Novak Motor is faster overall in the 10.5 range.

if anyone cares, i was on the phone ealier this week with orion. i was requesting information regarding the vortex 3.5 motor, heres what i got. speeds are identical to the novak 3.5 and the lrp 3.5. Operating temps are safe up to 190 degrees and lastly the KV on the 3.5 is a touch over 8,500.. this is where i get confused, the rep told me the speeds are identical to the novak 3.5, but novak advertises there KV at 10,500 unloaded. So if the speeds are identical that would mean that the vortex 8,500 number should be loaded number.

Does Orion claim in writing somewhere that their brushless motors are "equivalent" to 27t or 19t brushed motors? That's what our club rules require for a BL motor to be eligible for our spec classes.

i do, it runs just like any other unsensored motor, you get a little cogging, but over all it works with it with no problem.

Has anyone found out if Orion is going to have a motor replacement program?

I have found the Vortex 10.5 a bit faster than the Novak. Has more torque and with a little timing increase is wicked fast on a large track.

Simon,
That's a pretty tall gear ratio... What track were you at? Were you runing 6 cell? With original timing set, I would have thought 7.5 to 8 (large track + 6 cell) would have been nearer to the mark... might explain the sluggishness…

Looks like you overgeared it. Large track with 5-cell should be around 7.
