nope thats not a hinged t-bar. it must be their f104/f103 1 piece mount. there should be small inserts that screw in above or below the axle insets to adjust for the diameter difference of 103 & 104 wheels.

You are correct Mark. Thank you for your help identifying this.

I picked up a used one of these and the front end ball cup/o-ring setup looks real weak. The ball cups and o-ring's were all loose on the car and the ball cups wouldn't stay in place when I pressed on down on the front end. What are you doing to keep the ball cups in place? Should I just put an F104 front end on it?

I have only had the front end fail on me once. Believe it or not it holds up very well. Some put some CA glue on the o rings to help secure it.

I don’t think so. Does this look like a stock chassis? I’m not familiar with the rear piece with the angle upward.

HPI Vintage Carbon T-bar, option part for the F103. Their milled chassis was nice, but too stiff.

Luckily there were extra cups and o-rings that came with the extra pats so I was able to tighten it all up. I put a little CA on the o-rings so we'll see how it goes.

I'm assuming RobK's setup is a good starting point for crc black ozite?

Should be 😉

For the CRC F1 pre-mount tires how much of the sidewall needs to be glued for black ozite?

Apex 01-05-2022 05:19 AM

Also, how are you able to run the battery transverse without having to file the tabs on the graphite spring holder part?Just trying to keep it TCS legal.

I usually do the whole outer sidewall up to the ridge molded in just before the tread. If you wish to start a little more conservatively, start below the line. If things get really crazy, you can also do the inside sidewall as well.

You can take the tabs off per Fred Medel from Tamiya USA. I asked him about this as soon as I built my original car, and I have raced it like that at many TCS events.

So do we think Tamiya is done making TRF F1 models?

I hope they don't stop making TRF F1 models. Though, I think it's weird they make a TRF103 then discontinue it, but keep making the TRF102. Why wouldn't they discontinue the TRF102 and focus on making the TRF103 available and spare parts for the TRF103? I'm looking fwd to a TRF104.

I'm hoping for a TRF104 too. I'm still running the 102 and am surprised you say they are still available - who has them in stock? Spares are running out too, which isn't a problem since the 102 never breaks except the t bar and aftermarket carbon ones are available still

I remember seeing it available on the tamiyausa.com site. But that was probably a couple months ago.

I sure hope they will release any TRF model at all, not just F1 cars! The 420 is more than 2 years old by now, discontinued and hard to find. Will we see a new car soon or is the future of TRF to be a marketing label for premium Hop-Up parts?
