Thumbs up Return to Racing

Guys

After 12 years not racing i have returned and i am now running a XX4 WE. Great car but my fingers are lettingme down. reading through the forum, my god lots of pages, does anyone still have the XXX cr ali rear end hinge pin holder available?also will fitting this if have a big off tear the back out of the chassis.

Does anyone have an idea if they can still get the stiff spring for the clicker?.

Will post some pics of car as it has some different bits on it. Full e-speed shock tower braces, camber braces and ackerman mod. Also a tensioner on the side belt, stops that belt breaking and stripping.

Has anyone got any more ideas to try and make it bullet proof?

Also TLR shoud re-vamp this awesome car, as it is still better than a lot of stuff out there. Just needs updating on the drivetrain a bit and includin a CR rear end. May be big bores.

What does everyone think? Also has anyone tried big bores on one yet?

Regards

windy

I don't know about that, I'm not familiar with it.

I was thinking about that the other day. I'm not sure if the stiffer spring is still available. However, if it isn't you could use an inner shock spring, or a pan car front spring inside the normal spring to stiffen the assembly up.

There are stacks of ideas in this thread. Particularly about strengthening the front arms, bulkhead and the shock towers. I also recommend machining up a skid plate for the rear, as the chassis is weakest there and wears away after a while.

Back a couple of pages there are pictures of people's cars with big bore shocks on them, just flick back to check it out.

I think most of us here would agree with you that the XX-4 re-booted would be an instant race winner at top level. It's still a winner now.

Would you mind putting up a two photos of the Schumacher arms side-by-side with the XX-4 arms? one front on and one top down. I'd like to see how the shock mounting holes line up, and if they create any wheelbase/wheeltrack change etc.

Default my xx-4/22 project... almost complete

This is a project I have been working for sometime. It is a xx-4, with a complete tlr22-mid rear-end on it. Everything is fully functional, ie.. xx-4 diff, belt clearance, belt adjustment, & tlr 22 toe-in, anti-squat, etc..

The rear shocks still have ballcups on the bottom, from when it was a standard xx-4, and will now be replaced with standards shock bottom eyelets.

I literally just finished the car, this far, 2days ago, and I cannot track test it until next weekend. Our local track races 2x a month, and no practice unless its on race-day.

I do need to switch the rear 4deg LRC block for a 3-4deg HRC inorder to maintain 2deg standard anti-squat, and this weekend I am replacing the delrin suspension plate with a better 2mm aluminum or 1mm steel.

I would LOVE to see a TLR revise the xx-4!

these are the 1st set of pics. I've even included a pic of the car before the mod.

Just wanted to see what kinda feedback & maybe additional ideas I might get back from y'all!

Default my xx-4/22 project... almost complete.. 2nd post

This is my 2nd set of pics.

I will be racing this car at the Fall Classic in Hutchinson KS.. suppose to be a very high-bite Med-sized indoor track, my local indoor track is tight & med-low traction, and then I'll race it on the ACR Tulsa, OK track by the end of the month.

Btw.. The Shuey CatSX2 front medium flex arms are and EXACT geometry match to the kit xx-4 arms. They are just thicker and use a 3mm hinge-pin on the inside hole. The kits half-thread screws that bolt into the Caster Block do not need any modifaction. I have runs these arms for 2years and have never broke one.. I would regularly break a stock xx-4, especially when racing in colder temps.

My next project is to modify the front-end to try and utilize the TLR22 front suspension, since the 22's front geometry is the same as the xx-4 Its a tougher project..

The 22 front arms and XX4 front arms share the same length. That's it. Shock mounting positions are different as well as sweep. If I remember the 22arms are swept back more.

Talking My XX4 WE

Guys,

The spec is as the earlier post with a few marginal changes as i go along for reliability.

But have finally got the shell mounted on the car and it is a great old skool design(originally used by Cliff Lett)a long time ago. Sprayed by Number 5 designs in the UK, would highly recommend his work, excellent value for money, packaging and turn around is superb. Enjoy my race preped car.

Will be rebuilding my other XX4 we to a higher standard as i go.

Any ideas to improve reliability are always appreciated.

regards

Windy
