Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Shouldn't be a big deal, front and rear are fairly independent.

The 2.4 in rear will give you less side bite. Only ran this in high grip and I would recommend changing the inserts to aka or use dirt techs if you can't get them

Chances are bar-flys aka chainlink or typos will work as well. With minimal tread, compound and prep are the bigger part of it. May take longer to break in.

Yeah, Dirt Webs and Electrons are the "go-to" tire around here too. Then again most of the people around here don't run clay tires, when that's all I run. If you can swing it, I'd definitely pick up set.

Thanks but they are out of stock too! My friend broke his and now I'm paranoid.

I had a similar issue with JC 2wd Front Clay Smoothies, ended up finding a new set on eBay.

For the front spring, I drive much harder in stock, and it just gave me a little more safety. The rear oil won't roll less, it'll just roll slower.

I checked those out, but they're all backordered on all my go-to places. Next year I need to stock up before indoor season starts. Probably doesn't help that the dirt webs were the spec tire at Reedy the other weekend. I'm sure that sucked up the supply.

They are just the most popular tire for indoor racing, and struggle to keep up with supply this time of year...

On Dustin Evens Reedy set up it says rear spring rate 1.94. Anyone know what spring that is? A TLR LF gray is 1.96. That's the closest i can find.

They're so close I wouldn't bet that the duff would be detectable. I would be surprised if the springs can be manufactured accurately enough to guarantee batch tolerance that tight.

So this is Serpent diff with 15k, using only two gears... what sort of track is this? Clay/carpet - med/high? Thanks!
