Team Associated B4.2 Thread
hey guys,
Do you feel there is a significant benefit to running short packs in your B4s? I have an arsenal of standard sized LiPo packs but I am thinking of getting some short packs for my B4.2. They won't work in my DB01 so they will be specifically for my AE car which is kind of a unique expense. Those who do run short packs, do you run them forward or back? (high bite clay for me).
Thanks for any opinions!

If you run stock... I'd say shorty would have to be the way to go though.

This is great info, thanks guys. I will shop for some SMC or possibly Turnigy packs to get me started and go from there. Thanks also for letting me know how you guys are orienting the packs in the battery tray.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
I will say this, there can be a huge difference in companies full packs. I used the reedy full 5000 wolf packs. They are a lot lighter than other heavy full packs. Shorty does jump and land better but after lots and lots of testing, it didn't matter on the clock. Shorty just didn't produce overall in a whole race. Drivability and consistency is way better with a full wolf pack.
Those batteries are great but honestly, If you want consistent batteries that stay the same the whole run, spend the money and buy a top of the line battery, especially if youre running stock. I have ran some cheaper batteries with high C ratings($45-$60 range) and they are great at first, amazing power but they fade off quickly and it only gets worse the older they get. Then I bought a Thunder Power 65C 3800mah shorty ($80 I think, not super top end battery) and the difference was incredibly noticeable. It lacked a little punch but the battery had the same exact power until it cut out due to voltage. It was great for the 17.5 motor I was running at the time, could clear the triple every lap whereas I was casing it towards the end of the heat with the cheaper batteries, which was important. Just my $0.02.
Just by shear numbers, a 3800mah battery is going to have a lower average voltage after 6 minutes than a higher mah battery for the same discharge rate. Your selling yourself short by running 3800mah. No battery has the same power at the end of a run as it does at the beginning. Put your 3800mah batteries on a PowerLab or Turbo35 and I bet you'll be surprised what you find out.
Also, just because a battery is more expensive doesn't mean it's better. If that were true, then everybody would be running MaxAmps, and all the other overpriced batteries on the market.
I have several friends that run SMC and they love them. I know SMC tests all their batteries as well. My Fantom's are also tested and if they don't match his standards, Fantom doesn't sell them.
