Not Spencer, lol. he does normally come down here when Maifield does though.

Spencer is a little Maifield. He takes him to almost every race now. Kid is definitely fast.

I got a b4.1 used and it came with a gear-diff. Should I replace it with a ball-diff? I race on a short track with a 17.5 Reedy

Yeah, he is quick. Ryan helps him out a bit. I often seen him taking laps with spencer's car and giving feedback.

Ball diff all the way. Why do u think it comes in the factory team version cause its better.

Wildcat1971 08-01-2013 06:15 PM

well, heck at least drive it with the gear diff to see what its like. then when you get a ball diff, you can form your own opinion

Thats not necessarily true, I have been testing a gear diff on a high traction med sized track with very good results. Its a tuning option, both diffs have their place, I know Cavalieri runs a gear diff sometimes, and I am willing to bet almost every AE Pro has one.

I would break it down, see if anything needs to be replaced, if everything is good rebuild it ( I would suggest using Mobile 1 Synthetic Red Grease) and give it a try, you might be happy with the results, if not you can always buy a ball diff kit.

I use ball diffs until I hear them make noise and rebuild. I like them. Came with the kits so never messed with gears. Any stores sell a fully built transmission for a B.4 with good ball diff, that would be nice? I have two rebuilt sitting in my bag with engine plate and wings already installed but to buy one all done would be cool.

I ran into the same thing and I tried it out on 2 tracks where my 22 went pretty damn well and I found the car un-driveable which is what I was expecting. I immediately dropped in the ball diff and the difference was night and day. Having owned the very first RC10 waaaaay back when, the day I bought the stealth tranny life was soooo much easier. Suddenly I was able to fine tune the car to get it just like I wanted. Tight grippy track or loose, didn't matter because I had 2 points to tune. Slipper and Ball Diff and it was, and continues to be today, a synch!

Some people might like the Gear Diff but I have one in my box because it's there in the event of an emergency where my tranny goes kablamo. It will at least let me run for the day without any problems outside of making my car more difficult to drive.

It seems like a treaded barcode or scrub works fantastic on a packed surface, but is awful on anything with loam, dust, or loose dirt.

The JConcepts Rips are the most consistent front tire I've ran. They don't seem as edgy or aggressive as your standard 3 or 4 rib front tire like the Proline 4-rib or the JConcepts Groovy.

I have personally never gotten my B4.1 or B4.2 to turn on a treaded front tire. The tracks I run on and my driving style just don't cater to anything but Rips.

On another note a few pages back, everyone was flipping out about the camber link rubbing on the rear shock bodies. I just finished up my B4.2 minutes ago. Has anyone mounted their hub towers like I have? I just moved it to the rear of the hub, which moved it 2-3mm. It look's a little goofy, but I'd rather have free movement.

That's the way I have mine with the A hub and Avid wheels. No rub. The stock wheels don't rub on the bench but I've never driven on them.

Going with the traid over the VTS in 17.5 blinky see how it does. Had one sitting in box so thought I would try with all this talk.

You wont be disappointed

this car is a little boring, haha
it has all important parts in the kit and stock set up is very good. you have just to drive this car and no tuning is needed.

from my durnago dex210 times i was always looking for tuning parts, trying to get the ball diff not slip and was searching for a good set up without a good result.

the b4.2 is realy good. just drive and drive.

my t4.2 is good too :-) i like this truck too

Will this RPM Gear Cover work on the B4.2?
