Hmm, extreme racing, snr, or tekno? The one in the picture that's cracked looks like a tekno, which surprises me as i thought it would be the strongest of them all. Choices, choices.....

Cant speak for the Tekno ones, but I'm willing to bet they're just as stout--Tekno stuff rocks!!
For those of you on the fence about carbon fiber don't over think it--this is one of the best places on the vehicle to reduce weight (up high) ;)

another + for team sr. I have a 4 mm front on my xb4 and its rock solid. The xray cf tower cracked in a month... for tekno sct I will go with them since its not machined like the factory options. Maybe thats causing flex?

I'm using carbon fiber on my EB48 and broke the front shock tower the other day. It snapped where the shock is mounted. I'm going back to the gun metal stock towers for buggy. I'm keeping the carbon fiber though on my SCT410. With the buggy being open like it is the front shock tower takes a beating when it flips over, doesn't seem that the carbon fiber is durable enough for the buggy.

Been ages since I got a chance to race my SCT410. Its totally dried up here in AZ now. Ive been thinking of maybe converting it to a light buggy. Does anyone know the minimum parts required? Its looking like I can get away with the wheel adapters and body mounts, maybe a couple other small things and have a decent buggy.

Anybody know the weight difference between the stock towers and the machined alum towers? Are they the same weight? If they are lighter that would be sweet. I want to lighten the towers but unsure about carbon. Maybe the Cnc could he a good choice.

I am unsure about carbon as well. Know someone who broke both towers at once. Costly mistake.

Machined towers are heavier than stock. The stock ones are stamped and thinner than the machined ones.

First race tonight:

Had some electronic gremlins hurt me in the main and Cityblocks 2 didn't do too great but I still did pretty good overall.

Ended up qualifying 4th and the only setup changes I made was removing the rear and center brace since that what Anthony does and he is faster so I have to copy him.

As usual I didn't get a good start in the main and had to work my way up from dead last after getting tangled up in the first turn. Was running in 3rd when my ESC started acting up and lost throttle. Fell back down to 8th in the time it took marshal to flip the switch and get me rolling again. Got back into 3rd when it decided to glitch out again. Unluckily for me was in front of a kids parent who had no idea how to attempt fixing it so I didn't get to finish my last lap.

Still managed to get 5th which is pretty good considering I had electronic issues twice and it was my first time ever driving the truck at Easley and second time ever. Even managed to get the fast lap of the 4WD group with a 27.671!

With a good 8 hour practice day or toe I should start feeling more comfortable and get an idea what setup changes I'll want to play around with.

Can someone post a video showing what is being done to snap/damage a 4mm-5mm carbon shock tower?

Seriously?

It has to be epic...

Go big enough and anything will break ....... And on a buggy the shock towers are even more vulnerable ......
