working on weight...
Hey Tekno boys! I was wondering how the truck feels when on the lighter side. I used to run the durango and now have the tekno at 7 lbs and it drives nice...
I am curious if the truck goes on the lighter side, will it respond like the durango? |
Finally got some time to relax and swooped a Tekno from Mikes Hobby Shop in Dallas. The guys at Mikes were saying they can't keep the Tekno's in stock.. 3 in and 3 out. Put it together last night, was a breeze. Its nice to see the quality and durability of an 1/8th in a 1/10th scale.. Looking forward to racing tomorrow!

ive settled on losi 50 fr, and 40 rr, pink front (think green might be better), orange rear. 0% rebound, vented. ppl havent seemed to care or believe that it works well. ive had 2 ppl locally that have tried it after they complained how soft it is, chassis slap, nose dive, etc.....and they loved it!!! still could use some fine tuning, but all n all a huge improvement. i just got my fioroni pistons, and im going to wait to test after i get back from psycho nitro blast!! but when i do i think im going to start with 45 fr, 35 rr
Also when you do, if you could describe your track conditions it would be helpful. Joey |

Could this possibly be Virgil from back in the S-Grid days? OMG, I hope so! I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe whenever I was reading the latest installments of Life at WalMart...
If it's you Virgil - I missed you, man! Start posting about what's been happening in your world. |

Would you please let me know how those oils do with the pistons? I recall reading pages back that people were starting with 50f 40/45r and that seemed stiff (with stock springs I think, if my mind serves me well).

I drilled the stock pistons tonite. 1.34mm drill bit. I did front and rear pistons.
My truck was bouncing alot on our bumpy straight. Ran 37.5F/30R Ae oils and stock springs. Between the piston change and moving the battery back, I picked up more than 4 tenths over a 16 second lap. Granted its my third time on the layout. The truck was rea bouncy on the table and I didn't think it would work very well, but I was pretty surprised. Clean tires made traction rolling happen more than I want though. Oils probably need to come up some, and I think a heavier sway bar would be good. Truck was faster but a little harder to drive.... |
Quick question for you Tekno guys. I drove Kuya's and loved it. The Tekno has been doing very well at my local tracks too. My buddy was in the market for a new 4wd sct and I recommended it to him after having driven one as I myself was thinking about purchasing one. But he's broken 3 axles so far in less than 2 or 3 full battery packs (I know, I did read that there were or may have been a bad batch of axles and and yes Tekno is taking care of you guys who've had the axle issues). He's getting frustrated about the axles and then he actually broke an outer rear hingepin when working on it to put in the new axles. I keep telling him to hang in there, these are just teething problems and should be expected of any new vehicle to a certain extent. But now that he broke the outer rear hingepin, I'm getting gun shy as to whether or not I want to go this route. No shops or tracks in our area are carrying parts for this truck yet. So now that he has a broken hingepin, he's faced with either not racing this weekend while he waits for Tekno to send him one or he could use a hingepin off of another brand that may fit. I guess my question here is, has anyone else broken hingepins? He hasn't driven the truck very hard, he's only got a half a battery pack of "getting to know you" time in practice, then 2 heats of racing (broke axle near the end of second heat), a couple laps of practice at another track and broke another axle, fixed it, then finally broke a 3rd axle after he replaced that one in less than a full pack ending his race day before it even started. I have faith in the truck and that Tekno's going to get through this. He doesn't have the same faith that I do and is contemplating selling it for a SCTE 2.0. Anyone know of which hinge pins he can use in the mean time to get him back on the track for the weekend? So far, he's missed 2 weeks of racing due to the axle issue and lack of replacements available. His truck we think is a second batch truck. First batch if I'm right, doesn't seem to be having these same issues, but I could be wrong. Come on guys, help me keep him in the drivers seat of his Tekno! I keep telling him he's just had some bad luck and going to love his truck once the wrinkles are ironed out, but his patience is wearing thin. BTW, He has spoken with Tekno and they did send out axles to him that were definitely different than the ones in the kit or the ones he got from Amain, so hopefully those wont break. But the Hinge pin deal has me scratching my head as I haven't heard any issues about them yet. But i don't follow this thread that closely either. Thanks for the help.

I broke a hinge pin also on removal I thought I may have been the only one. It snapped off at the threads

i used a reventon pro 2.0 with fan in my sc10 4x4 powering a 4.0 reedy 550 and had no overheating issues whatsoever. very smooth throttle response as well.(which is needed in a sc10 4x4)

There is another way to repair the hinge pin problem until you get a new one. Drill a small hole in the pin area of the arm and put in a set screw, grind a small flat spot on the axle for the set screw like the older Associated cars had.

At Mikes Hobby Shop in Porter Tx, there is regularly 8-10 teknos now. I have yet to see or hear of any broken parts except the shock shaft I broke last week. I believe any of the issues seen here are isolated incidents, besides the over hardened batch of axles.....
