There is no issue unless you are trying to gear for a 17.5 motor. Then you need to make the proper spur gear fit because Xray doesn't make one.

Ahh, I thought it might be that(stock racing). I'm so glad that every single offroad class in my area is open (mod). I race a lot of 17.5 blinky touring car, but I can't imagine racing 4WD Buggy with a 17.5. Heck, I added some boost and turbo to my 6.5 because it felt a bit too slow without any timing.

There's no problem with the XB4 spur. The problem is people are trying to race 4wd buggy with crawler motors.

Well after my first couple of packs through the buggy, really enjoy driving it hard, have a small concern running 6.5t and 5600 55/110 batteries with no boost or timing changes on the nosram gear and that is the motor seems to be getting hot after about 7 minutes hard running.

Im running the stock spur with a 19 pinion pretty much on tracks like the video on the last page, diffs are 7k front and 5k rear, should I be going up or down a tooth in the pinion to perhaps reduce the motor heating up ???

We've been running 20 and 21 pinions on tracks of similar size with a 6.5T Tekin Redline Gen2 and RS Pro.
19 was the first we tried 6 months ago but was way under geared and ran warm with our setup.
So I would definitely go up at least 1 tooth for outdoors

Just built my kit last evening. This was Far and Away the most impressive kit I've ever built. Everything fit absolutely perfectly. The components are the highest of quality and I've never seen better instructions in my life. If this thing drives as good as it's built, I'm going to be very happy!

One question though, how are you guys wiring your esc to battery connections to avoid the spur gear eating the wires? I think I may need to create a custom set of wires of my saddle pack and shorten the battery wires from my ESC. On my B44.2 I made a spur guard out of lexan, but on that car the spur only protrudes above the deck 5 millimeters or so. The XBR spur sits above the deck quite a ways.

savagesam, do you have a good fan blowing on your motor?

I'm geared around the same as you (84/20 compared to your 81/19), but my motor is only a little warm after a 6 minute race. My ESC (orion r10) is usually warmer than the motor (ReVtech 6.5). I do have a fairly smooth trigger finger from racing mod TC though. Maybe the small amount of boost I have could be helping the motor to run more efficiently as well. More rip out of less throttle? I don't know. works for me

Anyway, it's an awesome car. I've been having a blast racing my XB4. The only thing I would change, would be making the wing mounts a bit more reinforced at the back, but ever since I've been shoegooing an extra piece of lexan under the center of the wing, I haven't snapped the back off any mounts. I broke a few before doing that though.

Wease, I run all my motor wires and one battery wire under the front drive shaft. It's a small channel there, but they all fit. Nothing is close to touching the spur on my car. It probably helps that I'm using a low profile servo.

Here is my wiring set up, as you can see I built a little cover for the servo wire and speedy wire to the receiver, also running the smaller servo gives you more room, Im not running a fan on the motor side but have been told its a good idea, would like to see some pics of how people are running a fan on the motor side

Sam how hot is it getting? On the Nosram speedy if you hold the mode button on while turning on the switch the green LED will initially blink to show the temp of the speedy. Press mode again and it will give a series of flashes to show how far from thermal cutoff the temp is. The closer to 10 blinks the closer you are to thermal cutoff.

We race here in Perth in some very hot conditions with the combo you are using and the same gearing and never more than 8 blinks for motor temp after 5 min race and 2 min warmup.

I haven't seen a single XB4 with a fan on the motor side of the car yet.

Here you go:

We run 21.5 motors in 4wd stock. The fan is just extra protection.

Well spotted there!
I thought so too. Makes changing the fan really easy. I used to glue the fan in with shoe goo, but its a huge pain if you need to replace the fan.
