Most of the newer models are just the size of a normal shorty except a little bit longer to allow for you to move the weight forward or rear about 20-30mm if I had to guess.

Default 13.5 motor and center slipper/diff

hey, mostly ran mod, but want to dabble into 13.5. What is your choice for beastly 13.5 motor for my 2018 xb4 right now? Also, are you guys mainly running gear diffs or slippers? I mainly run on dirt or clay. Thanks

I have run the Reedy S+, Trinity Monster Max, and Tekin Spec R 13.5 motors and all three provided similar lap times at my clay track. Gearing and timing is a little different on each motor but all perform great. As far as slipper vs diff, I like the diff better. The car feels more planted and predictable to me. I'm sure you will get comments back supporting both. Start with the slipper and see how you like it before dropping $ on the center diff.

thanks for that reply. Any big changes you guys make to the car mod vs 13.5? With the monster max are you running the rotor it comes with on amain? What diff weight are you running in the center? Also can you run the poly pro pinions in 13.5? I run them in 17.5 2wd but wasn’t sure if they can take 13.5 4wd.

I just ran my box stock MY19 XB4 on clay yesterday and posted the same and some faster lap times than with my B64 w/pucks. It weighs in at 1740 with a Hobbywing XR10 esc, Savox full size servo, Tekin Spec R, and 5000mah shorty pack. I'm going to change out the diff gear and pinion with plastic to take rotating mass out. But that's about it. I ran the stock rotor on the Monster, but I see some run the copper one. Unless you need a tenth or two per lap I don't see the need. Have not tried poly pro pinions on 13.5, not sure there's an advantage. You probably won't like my diff setup, 8k front, 60k center, and 7k rear. Car is planted for my driving style. Faster guys will use higher center diff weights but I felt the car was too twitchy for me. I'm sure it's faster though if you can drive consistent lap times.

Great info. My hope is to run my xb4 in mod and 13.5 with just swapping motor, spur, pinion. I would like to setup better suited for mod, but still being able to switch the pinion spur and motor between races and still be competitive in 13.5 stock. Where did you buy your monster max? Amain?

I purchased the Monster Max directly from Trinity.

For the 13.5 guys, looks like there in no composite bevel gear yet for the 19? You will have to use the 18 and under composite bevel gear and the old style center shaft?

guys, dumb q please... Last 4wd I ran was an MY14 xb4 and it was moons ago... I just picked up a barely-used MY18 one which will be delivered to me shortly

is a lo-profile servo a must-have for this car? I have no spare at the moment, only standard-sized servos.

Does a longer servo hit the M3 nut that holds the sidepod, and/or does it prevent from mounting the receiver properly?

Thank you.

Paul

I run a full size servo in my MY19 buggy and it doesn't hit the M3 nut.

I think they have comp/graphite blend bevel and crown gears for 19 models out now.

Pretty Sure those are the old style gears for the 18. The crown gear for sure is only avail in the US in steel.
