Been interesting trying to figure out a way to do a front end hex conversion without using Associated parts mainly because the B4.2 hex axles are unicorns anymore.

Trying this out for now. Seems to be working. Not perfect but you get front hexes. You will have to bore out the pivot holes because the B4 kingpins are a tad bigger.

B5 style hex axles + Traxxas 2WD steering blocks

Traxxas 3636A + ASC71127 hex axle

I’ve been looking at other options. I’d like to try the Yokomo SO2.0 steering blocks because it’s a similar design to the modern Associated 2WDs.

I've looked at the Custom Works kit but the guys at RC10talk said you'll still have to drill out the kingpin holes. I'll have a look at that RB10 piece, though. It looks promising.

Yes, these days a bit of modification is needed to get things to work on our "old faithful" RCs. eBay chop shop...

I've compared the B4 and B6 front arms, and the B4 outer pivots are wider (15.9mm) than the B6 (14.9mm). It might be possible to use the B6 caster & steering blocks with 0.5mm hub spacers. It might even be possible to use the B6 arms altogether, but I'll have to experiment with that.

Also, since I'm planning on keeping the vintage purple RPM ball cups, I've found they work with both metric and standard ball studs.

This was pretty dialed at the local indoor clay track.

For future reference: B6 arms with a B4 bulkhead.

- The bulkhead pivots will need to be drilled out with a 3.10mm bit.
- A bit of material will need to be dremel'd off the forward hinges of the arms to free it from binding with the bulkhead.
- 0.5mm spacer should be used inside the hinges. (pictured are 1mm spacers that I originally tried, but they caused binding)

B6 front end conversion with Yokomo shocks.
Ran at the track a few laps like this (different tires) and it wasn’t bad. Actually, really decent. I’ll have to get the local fast guy to wheel it and see what he thinks.
