if you gear brushless taller they pull more current and thus make more power.
adding to that the torque lowers when RPM goes up, and the taller gearing will thus make the car run faster for a given RPM.
Thus with Brushless you usally get more spin with taller gearing, not lower.
this also explains the wheelies the stockers can pull, gear them low and they are done doing that.

Gearing taller will tame wheel spin ...
also
A bigger pinion push's the motor further back which will add rear traction...
alert
Too large of a pinion can over heat the motor & ESC... (Bad)
suggest a 22,23 /78 for 8.5 ,T4

Recommend Ryan Mayfield's T-4 set-up for your base set-up ....
start with that....

How good is the T4 out of the Box?
What hop-Ups Are needed?

For a 8.5 81/23 or 84/23 depending on temps.
For a new T4, there are really no neccessary mods. Only thing I can think of is doing the gt2 front end with arms, caster blocks, and spindals. It adds some strength and makes the truck about bulletproof.

T4 is pretty tough. only 1 C-hub broken in 25H of runtime orso.
#9643
T4 does not use Gt-2 rear hub , instead use the B-44 rear hub or the stock T4 hub...

I picked up a used rtr version, dropped a novak 10.5 in it and won almost every race I been in. they're very good outta the box.
simple mods were chose the right tires for the track and brushless. I did win the first weekend with the stock rtr system, but the temps kept going to 200* even geared with 16/84
so far broke 1 front arm, but still finished the race, didn't even notice it was snapped untill going to the pits
