Pick up a Hitec 6975HB (I think that's right), It's inexpnesive because it uses their Karobonite gears but it's digital, strong and stupid fast. I have used mine in two B4's, a 4wd, and now my stadium truck. I have had hits that have broken axles off the cars, never a problem with the servo.

HS-6975HB

Length: 1.57" (40mm)
Width: .78" (20mm)
Height: 1.45" (37mm)
Weight 1.83oz (52.g)

Operating speed:
0.13 sec/60 degree at 4.8V
0.10 sec/60 degree at 6.0V

Output torque:
119.42oz. in (8.6Kg.cm) at 4.8V
144.42oz. in (10.4Kg.cm) at 6.0V

I think the voltage from most ESCs are around 5.5v, so the speed and torque will probably be slightly less than what's listed, but even still, it's fast and torquey.

That's the one. Speed numbers can be a little misleading too, I have had other servos rated at the same speed that were not as fast. This thing is twitchy fast.

Thanks much guys for the advice but I think I'm going to stick with Futaba because I've always used them and never had a failure. Maybe a BLS451.

hey guys

I was cleaning my B4 after 4years of resting and found out something very unusual.

found shiny worn out spot inside of my front teflon coated shock body, last time I saw this was 80-90s when we only had gold shocks, is this shocks any diffrent than a hard anodised shock that used came with the team car? I dont remember seeing this on my rc10 team car.

if this affecting performance of my car (I beilive it does) I will be very disappointed to AE for quality for gain profits.

Relax , the performance is not really issue , I`v use shock bodies for over a year with no changes in the damping due to wear ...

They all wear out eventually. The purpose of the coating is to smooth out the shock(Teflon) or lengthen it's lifespan at optimum performance(Hard coated). But they all will wear thru eventually.

I would not be too concerned, until your oil starts to show a small amount of silvery sparkle in the oil when you work on them. This is the aluminum shock case and means you will start to feel a performance loss, or need to go to slightly heavier oil if your on a budget.

Most team guys toss the shocks once they show any signs of wear, but for us who pay, run them until the oil changes colors....jmo.

The older AE bodies (light silver color) had a very poor surface hardness. The darker green ones last much longer. Losi's hard-coating is 10x better. I have never seen those wear through, no matter how old.

I do remember instant performance gain from worn out gold shock to brand new hard coated shock, I know thats too extreme diffrence but I do bielive it does affecting.

yes that life span seem to be LOT shorter than before, I had same shocks(hard coated) on team car for 2-3 years without that silver spot, now this B4 only ran about a year before I put it away already have spots, I think they should bring the hard coated shocks back or at least give us a option to choose from, I will pay few more dollars any time for longer lasting shocks.

yes I do see that grey dirty oil effect inside of my shock from that aluminium spots. and it sux

mine is that light grey/green color from very 1st batch of B4, I see that B44 having darker color shocks on the pictures, so darker is harder?

Make sure to slime the O-rings when you build your new shocks.

I also use only futaba servos... my fav in flashlights... 9551. Small, quick and plenty powerful.

I've seen alot of the BLS servos burn up, I'm not impressed with them.
